Truth Behind Your Cruise Itinerary

Experienced cruisers will already know by looking at an itinerary how far the ports are from the main city and towns. However those that are new to cruising may be a bit miffed when booking a cruise that visits Paris or Rome they are in fact in some cases two hours away. With Paris being the capital of France you know the only water that surrounds it is the Seine.  I think the most shocking one that appears is Berlin, people are thinking this will be lovely to visit but in reality it is just under three hours away from Warmunde the port. How far would you travel to visit a city or town? I would always recommend a pre planned excursion, especially open that guarantees getting you back to the ship, regardless.

Here are a few examples:

Rome – Civitavecchia Port- distance 1 hour and 19 minutes

Paris- Le Harve Port- distance 2 hours 25 minutes

Florence- Livorno Port- distance 2 hours 19 minutes

Pisa- Livorno Port – distance 38 minutes

Marseilles- Toulon Port- distance 50 minutes

Ephesus- Kusadasi Port – distance 40 minutes

Bangkok- Laem Chabang Port – distance 2 hours 11 minutes

Haifa- Tel Aviv Port- distance 1 hour 23 minutes

Beijing- Tianjin Port- distance 2 hours 19 minutes

So you can see some are a fare old distance- would this put you off or wouldn’t it bother you if it was somewhere you would really like to see. I suppose it depends.

Would you say the cruise line itineraries are misleading or do you think it is down to the individual to research it properly?  I think its a bit of both, some are pretty obvious and some are not as clear. With the cruise lines trying to add interesting ports of call to their itineraries  they are trying to be different from their competitors.
