Airing my dirty washing in public!

I hate socks! Small socks, large socks or any sock as in my house this sock mountain photograph is the norm and you can be sure at the end I am left with at least ten lone socks. This got me thinking about the ships laundry and how do they manage.

Having trained as a Hotel Manager and worked in large London hotels I am aware of some of the issues of bulk laundry; however in many cases hotels outsource their laundry requirements to offsite companies. With tons of laundry needing washing, drying and pressing every day cruise ships have to deal with this on board.

This is realised from the moment a new ship is designed as without a flowing laundry station the ship would grind to a halt. As space is at a premium this needs to be inset at the ships conception.

As well as the numerous bed linen and tablecloths the ships laundry also has to deal with hundreds of staff uniforms and passenger laundry. Once your item of clothing arrives in the laundry it is coded with a unique iron on number that corresponds to your cabin so that once cleaned and pressed it can be easily sorted to be returned to your cabin.

As for socks I have it on good authority that they are washed on board paired up so no socks go missing. I think I may have to try this!
