This was our first cruise experience. We did not want to try the big cruise liners, too many people for us. We were recommended to try Voyages to Antiquity by friends. I can honestly say for a first time experience it was excellent. The food both in the informal cafeteria and the more formal Marco Polo restaurant was very good, noveau cuisine and excellent attention from restaurant staff. My only disappointment was the complimentary offer of cheap Greek wine in the dining room which resulted in buying from a better quality wine list. A sales ploy which was not according to the brochure of wines from the countries visited. We did not visit Greece. The cabin was an outside Premium room which very nice but without a bath (for the wife) or adequate storage room for luggage. The room steward was brilliant as we all the Filipino staff, so cheerful and helpful. The cruise lectures were very good as were the onshore visits to historical places. The local guides were brilliant and very entertaining. My only disappointment was not being able to settle my onboard account by Maestro. The ship only accepted VISA, MASTERCARD and AMEX. Thanks to the Purser I was able to find an ATM to pay my bill on the final day. They need to include MAESTRO in their financial system. Apart from that we will definitely book again in 2012.

Question by Sydenham, Newtown Linford, Leicester (14 Jun 11 09:03) about this REVIEW
We are booked to go to the Black Sea in July on this ship. Our paperwork says men should wear a jacket and tie for dinner. Did all men wear jacket and tie for dinner every night or just for a few special nights? Also, we have been sent a list of all the currencies we need and wonder whether we can just change a small amount of money on board or whether we really need to take currency with us? In the past we have just taken small denomination dollars or euros and have been able to use them nearly everywhere.
