Cruise Line: Thomson Cruises Times cruised before: 6-10
Cruise Ship: Thomson Spirit Sailed: July, 2010
Destination: Mediterranean Age: 56-65
Cabin: Outside
we recently returned from the Adriatic Explorer seven day cruise on Thompson Spirit sailing from Corfu . we had experienced a Thompson cruise several years ago around the Greek islands and really enjoyed this. we found the Spirit was a tired old lady whose hull must now be at least six inches bigger all around than she was, due to the layers of paint covering the rust. our outside cabin on deck three was small and dark.
the biggest disappointment was the food. the lunches in the Lido reminded us of school dinners with shepherds pie etc on the menu. the dinner menu was not very exciting. we ate at Sirocco restaraunt twice in the week. this has an extra charge and although the food and service was better this should have been the standard in the main restaraunt. the Sirocco menu did not change at all.
now the good points. the staff were all very pleasant and helped engender a friendly atmosphere around the ship. the entertainment staff were good and the shows and musicians in the various venues were excellent.
we selected this partucular cruise for the ports of call and they did not disappoint. Koper in Slovenia can be reached on foot from the ship but unfortunately we visited there on a Sunday when the place was closed. why could we not have changed our visiting day and used Sunday as a sailing day.
Venice was next. a fifteen minute walk from the ship and about 16 euro gave us the worlds best return 'bus' ride down the full length of the Grand Canal. my wife had always wanted a coffee in St. Marks square so building up several brownie points cost me 29 euro for two capuchino.
Korcula in Croatia was a ride in on a tender and a lovely walled town . Dubrovnik was a fixed rate 10 euro taxi ride to the town gates followed by several hours wandering around the narrow street and exploring the bars and ice cream parlours.
the last , and probably the prettiest, call was Kotor in Montenegro. you sail into whats described as Europes most southerly fiord. there are steep sided mountains and little villages nestling at the bottom we went on our first organised tour and this took us around the edge of the fiord to a little village where Catherine Zeta Jones has a hideaway. then on to the big seaside resort of Budva. more exploring, bars and ice cream.
overall this was not the cheapest cruise around these destinations but was very enjoyable.
would we we go with Thompson again? i'm not too sure.
Quality of Food2
main restaraunt was uninteresting. Sirocco, for a premium, was better but same menu throughout
Entertainment5
the different musicians in all the venues were excellent
Shore Excursions4
only did one tour in montenegro which was very good. you can do your own exploring at most of these ports
Staff4
all the staff were very friendly. there is any time dining so had different waiter/wine waiter every evening
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities4
Cabins2
outside cabin on deck three was small and dark and needed updating

29 Euros for two cappuccinos?!!!! I can't get me breath, especially as you get about a thimbleful of coffee and a foot of froth.

visitors to Capri will be green with envy. Only €29 for two capuccinos ;-)

actually the coffee was only 17 euro but they added on another 12 euro for the music! this was a bit of a liberty as the group disappeared half way through our visit for a pit stop, and only reappeared just as we were leaving. for that price i would have expected the beatles to perform!

For that price I'd have expected all four Beatles, even the dead pair!

For that price I hope there were cockroaches too!
