cruised on the thomson spirit on 24th july 2009 from harwich. only went from there as we had missed our chance to go from newcastle due to family illness and as everyone knows thomson are not cruising from the uk again!!.
went by thomsons organised coach and it took 10 hours from leeds. we went into every town including getting lost in nottingham. i would never ever do that again. arrived at harwich where there was a ladybird plague and took quite a few back to the cabin!!!!!
been on the thomson ships many times so we know to expect a good time with the friendly crew and on this sailing we had the excellent cruise director stephen guy. who i believe is now on thomson dream. but i believe he comes back to "sinking ships" excuse the pun. so if he is on your ship the entertainment will be great. always approachable and smiling. he is totaly involved with the shows, acting and singing and his own one man show.
there were 2 B.B.Qs on deck in 2 weeks with the band playing, we were in flam at tender and it was very magical.
there were also 2 pub lunches in the 2 weeks in one of the bars. this made a nice change.
the ship has a deck grill and also every morning a "chefs special" at a stand where the chef makes to order. crepes one day, chinese another, etc.
there was also cooking demos on deck, cocktail making, veg and fruit carving and the "quiz"!!
it was nice sitting on the sunbeds with the rugs provided.
the ship has a lovely rear deck with the band playing many lunch times.
24 hour food. lovely scones and jam and cream in the afternoon expect to put on one pound a day unless you can resist!
plenty of music for everyone. pianist in one of the bars. classical pianist and violinist in another and a band in the lounge and a group in the observation bar (where you could put your feet up and watch for whales--- and we saw one)
previosly the musicians have been hungarian and have been absolutley fantastic but this time they were all philapinos.
they are not as good by a long way but they are friendly!!
there were afternoon plays also and dance classes so you couldnt really be bored.
david steel was on our trip but the sound at his lecture was terrible and someone had to shout that we could not hear him. david was not amused!!
7.00pm most nights was ballroom dancing but only for 1 hour.
honnisvaig we had a deck party. the temperature was 8 degrees!!
going on the spirit in june again before the ships time is up as the captain says it has only 5 years left.
thomson spirit not as glitzy as the P and Os and the royal carribbean but friendlier.
nice open sittings for meals and nice to sit with different people who you have never met before and maybe you have nothing in common(as some people say) but you can find out what cruise lines they have been on or what trip they have been on. what trip they are thinking of going on, and if you dont like them you are not stuck with them for the rest of the holiday.
