My husband and i have just returned from 14 day cruise (7 days back to back) . we had never been on a cruise before so it was a new expierence for us. we were very impressed on arrival, the staff had us boarded in no time, it was very quick and without any pressure at all, most impressed . on entering the ship we were impressed by the smart clean pubic areas , it is kept very clean indeed which must be very hard to keep going with 1500+ people tramping around the carpets all day. we were advised not to bother with an outside cabin as you only got a port hole. big mistake you got a porthole on deck 2 but further up the ship cabins had windows, i would never book inside cabin again, you need daylight in the cabin. the cabins were in need of a revamp, very tired but we were expecting that after reading other reviews. we had booked 2nd sitting at meals but had to change after the first week to first sitting as we were not sitting down untill 0845 and not finishing eating untill 10.15 much too late for us , to tired to see the last caberet show, also a problem with us was that you couldnt sit where you wanted to you were allocated to a table of 6 +, we would have preferred to eat alone and we ended up by the end of the holiday eating all our meals in the lido buffet bar, when you could eat when you wanted on smaller tables. when i book another cruise i will definatley look for flexible eating arrangements. we went on several excursions and found them value for money with very informative couriers, as you only have a day in the port it is nice to make the most of the area. the only problem was and excursion in CORSICA , entitled THE MINI MOUNTAIN TRAIN AND SENICE CORSICA, don't go on this it was a rip off, quite a few people complained about this and in fact thomsons refunded money to us. it is not a train as we know it it is one of those tourist toy rides that takes you up a dirst track for approx 200 yards then a scramble to a viewpoint , the coach had no aircon and it cost £34 each. we all felt as we had been fleeced. taking everything into account it was an enjoyable if not relaxing (only because we choose to go off the boat and see all ports) 2 weeks and it has spurred us on to book another cruise with another company in the winter
Quality of Food4
seven seas resturant and the waiters the first week food good but sittings and seating arrangements problem with us 2nd week we eat mostly in the lido food good and nice outlook out to sea and staff worked hard to keep the place clean in a very busy place
Entertainment4
caberet in the can can lounge very good . all singers were excellent. they did a show called moulin rouge which was brilliant top men group were very good
Shore Excursions4
did lots of excursions hard to pick the best but monaco, nice and monte carlo and the best of costa brava were proberly the most enjoyable the worst one without doubt was corsica the mini train and senice corsica not at all as described and most of the people on the coach felt ripped off
Staff5
the housekeeping staff worked very hard always on the go and the staff in the lido also were always clearing and cleaning . in fact all staff on board worked very hard very impressed with cleanliness
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities5
Cabins1
cabin very poor. drawer wouldnt open , wash basin chipped pillows lumpy but we were expecting as much after reading previous reviews

Question by THOMPSON, HULL (26 Jun 09 15:20) about this REVIEW
Hi we are due to go on the Jewels of the Med cruise on 2nd July. Are there any tips we need to know about making our own way around sicily and sardinia?
Answer by clark, conwy (27 Jun 09 09:09) to a QUESTION by THOMPSON (26 Jun 09 15:20)
hi we found the port area in palmero quite busy and scruffy...prehaps it would be best to take an excursion or take a trip on open air bus around palmero , you can book it as you embark from the ship just inside the terminal..be wary of taxi drivers , passengers on our cruise arranged a price and then as he was getting money out of his wallet to pay had money snatched from him and taxi driver drove away.. sardinia is lovely and unspoilt we went on trip by coach and boat over to island and someone else took trip on small train bot excellent trips . we thought sardinia so lovely and unspoiilt that we will definatly go back
Opinion: Agree Comment by North, Huddersfield (21 Jun 09 22:47) about this REVIEW
Agree your comments in general and particularly the fixed dining times and tables in the Seven Seas which we always find as the biggest negative for this ship - Having sailed on the Destiny a few times the score of 1 star for the cabin is a little unfair in my opinion - there is however a programme continually running of changing the turquoise sinks. If your drawer would not open it could have been rectified quickly by contacting reception in most instances !!
Question by Baylis, Gloucester (21 Jun 09 16:10) about this REVIEW
Can you use mobile phones whilst at sea and is it easy to get internet access
Answer by clark, conwy (26 Jun 09 08:30) to a QUESTION by Baylis (21 Jun 09 16:10)
yes but quite expensive...turn off when ship sails at evening and turn on when you go off ship in morning. there is an internet room that is very reasonable and you only get charged when yu download

yes you can use mobile at sea .certain areas of boat lousy reception think it works off ships satelite system. need to check call charges and try different areas on boat.
