The ship appeared fine, the staff were charming, the cabin a little small, but then you get what you pay for.
A very nice introduction to the boat then it began:
The music, the atmosphere the palpable sense of adventure as the crew began to haul the sails. Oh how magnificent the slight heel of a boat doing what it’s designed for, to sail the seas, rather than just motor around.
The heel disappears and the boat sets into a leisurely motion (albeit assisted by the engines due to the light airs) – Later on our trip the force 7 and 8 winds really brought her into her own.
We only had 4 days this time; just enough to realise what real cruising should be about. A trip to the Bridge, certainly sir, a tour of the engine room, why not sir, the galley etc, again why not sir.
Sports teams organising water activities, cruise director organizing the sports team and willing (and some very able) passengers to evening entertainments.
Not a lot for children and not very disabled friendly, however the passengers in both categories also seemed to be really enjoying themselves.
The tri language announcements were as usual a bit intrusive but the empathy between all the passengers more than made up for this slight inconvenience. By day 2 everyone was talking to each other or at least attempting to.
The fact that all the ships officers were available nearly all the time made a real change and a chance to get under the skin of the boat and its aims. I don’t know if it works but all the staff we talked too had been on the boat for long periods of time and still seemed very keen to serve, help, assist or have a laugh as most appropriate.
Disappointments; the rain storm on our last night must have caught someone out, all our luggage was wet through when we got to our after cruise hotel, others we spoke to said the same. Normally not a problem but they specifically ask you to take soft cases so the contents were equally soggy. You don’t need any formal clothes on board but we did for where we were heading next!
Would we go again? You bet your bottom dollar. In fact we are looking at the broacher now!
