THIS CRUISE WAS ON SAGA RUBY - NOT LISTED ON THE DROP DOWN MENUS - This cruise was disappointing in some respects but good in others. What spoilt was that our complaints about people smoking in the next cabin, and the smoke seeping through to our cabin and through the cupboard, were not listened to, taken seriously or acted upon.
Cabin - 342 - very small compared with similar grades on other ships, but well planned with a useable bath tub. Hot water was not in constant supply. Good for sleeping, comfy if very close together beds.
Food - apart from the poor quality pub dinner on the last night, excellent quality with great choice. Single seating. Table for two was in the the middle of a row of 3, less than a foot from each, and enforced sociability - we had selected a table for 2 to avoid this. Lunch had a good range of options, afternoon tea delectable with choice for diabetics too. Breakfast in main dining room was superb with a huge selection from light to very full. Healthy options available for those with willpower.
Service - attentive, apart from cabin steward who didn't really seem to have any customer focus - perhaps as tips were included he didn#t feel the need to bother?
Bars and lounges - Ballroom far too cramped. Lovely Britannia Lounge with day and evening entertainment - good quizes, varied musical events, talks and otherwise a great space to relax and gaze out of the windows. Cape bar, an enclosed space, included 4 smoking tables which of course meant this permeated to give a constantly unpleasant aroma. Drinks prices very fair and daily specials a bargain. Excellent, good value wine list with plenty of good quality lower priced bottles.
Ports - Excursions to Lille and Bremen were well orgnaised and did waht was promised - and as they were included in the fare this is a great bonus. Free shuttles at ports too.
Embarkation slow and too may processes, but disembarkation very smooth and fast.
Most passengers were in the older Saga range, 75 plus. Most people were really friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed.
Formal entertainment of medium quality - banjo player was awful though!
computer centre useful but no facility to upload photos.
Saga Ruby a great small ship, but is looking her age, and we'll look for a small but more modern ship next time.

| Breakfast - great choice and quality in the main dining room, chaotic in the self service
Good lunches - choice of waiter service or self service. Great curries.
Dinner great 6/7 nights awful on the last 'pub dinner' night. Good choice, high quality | | Entertainment | |
| Banjo palyer - terrible! | | Shore Excursions | |
| shuttles to Lille and Bremen were both efficient and well planned, and being included in the fare excellent value. | | Staff | |
| No one stands out as being superb, most were efficient, friendly and customer focused. No one went the extra mile - is that as there is no incentive as service is included? Cabin steward and other staff consistently failed to resolve the issue of the smokers in the adjoining cabin whose smkoe seeped into ours - and all cabins are non smoking. | | Children's Facilities | n/a |
