Spirit of Adventure is not a new ship, but is small and comfortable, around 300 passengers. The cabins are fairly compact, none with balconies, but everything you need is there. There are three big advantages, the destinations, the food, and the crew, without exception are all excellent.
Our cruise was from Harwich to Harwich, and, via Denmark we were headed into the Baltic, but more especially Finland and the Gulf of Bothnia, which at its top end lies very close to the Arctic Circle. July there means 23 hours of daylight, and. to visit Vaasa and Ulea(Swedish) so far north in 82F, almost too warm, was truly memorable. Thereafter Stockholm, which should be on everyone's list, the island of Visby(very classy) and Bornholm led us back to the Kiel Canal and home. Because Spirit was originally the German cruise ship Berlin, and featured on television many times, we were given a very friendly welcome going through the Canal.
All in all a memorable trip. We really like the ship, although those looking for glitzy public rooms, casinos, ghastly art auctions, and lots of entertainment, will be unhappy. But for those who enjoy interesting and off the beaten track places, backed up by good lecturers, this ship will be ideal. The excursions are included in the price, as are gratuities, so apart from drinks on board, which are modestly priced, there is not much else to dent the budget.
I must mention the crew again - without tips to look forward to, we were surprised time and again by their genuine friendliness and willingness to be of service. It does seem to be a happy ship, which rubs off on the passengers. Another bonus - no fighting over sunloungers.
We have booked another cruise on Spirit.
