Silversea try so hard to give the best service and in many respects they do succeed - but not in all respects.
The good aspects included staff getting just the right balance between warmth and familiarity; going out of their way to meet special requests; and learning guests' names.
On the other hand, the embarkation process at Monaco was haphazard; and cabin servicing each morning was slow and often not completed until lunch time. It would have been better to have had more housekeeping staff and less of the rather irritating waiters in the buffet who insisted of carrying plates to the tables. Room service food deliveries on the Silver Spirit took longer to arrive than any other ship we have used, but they were nicely presented when they arrived.
The entertainment staff included some who were outstanding: a most accomplished and congenial cruise director, and a very well matched team of singers and dancers who performed immaculately. But on the downside, the musicians in the bars were not noteworthy.
Food, while good, was not the best we have found at sea. It fell far short of a Mitchelin one star restaurant. However, we enjoyed the selection of wines served "all inclusive". They were just the sort of wines we keep at home.
Although this ship is only two years old there were several maintenance items which needed fixing such as door locks and frayed furniture. Also the cabin television sets did not respond at all well to the remote control. However, the TVs are nicely designed and set flush into the wall mirrors - one, when switched off, is hidden behind the mirror glass.
Would we embrace Silversea, forsaking all others? No. It's good, but there are excellent aspects of other lines too.
