Silversea - Silver Spirit

Silver Spirit

The newest vessel in the Silversea Cruises fleet, the Silver Spirit is an extremely well-appointed ship designed to make passengers feel completely comfortable and relaxed.

It's the largest liner in the fleet and the additional space has allowed Silversea to include a huge selection of new restaurants and other amenities that passengers are sure to love.

Meanwhile, the line's dedication to offering spacious and luxurious cruise experiences hasn't been compromised and the ship offers one of the largest guest-to-space ratios in the industry.

Overall, the design of the vessel is extremely stylish, with a number of art deco design elements inspired by the golden age of cruising in the 1920s and 1930s.

In addition, the service throughout the ship cannot be beaten and everyone from waiters and stewards through to concierge and butlers will be more than willing to help you with whatever you require.

The Silver Spirit was launched in 2009 and made its maiden voyage from Barcelona to Lisbon over the Christmas holiday. This was followed by the ship's first Atlantic crossing in January of 2010.

Various itineraries are available for those seeking to take a cruise on the Silver Spirit. These generally last from a week to 17 days and include destinations like South America, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Canaries. Popular ports of call include Barcelona, Las Palmas, Fort Lauderdale, Civitavecchia, Piraeus, Istanbul, Monte Carlo and Rio de Janeiro.

Food, cuisine and dining

Voyages on the Silver Spirit are advertised as all-inclusive, which means that most of the dining venues are no-fee, including some of the alternative options. Wine is provided with lunch and dinner, although if you'd like something a bit nicer, bottles are also available for purchase. Cocktails, soft drinks, coffee, tea and snacks are all provided on a complimentary basis as well.

The main dining room is simply called The Restaurant and it's a stunning venue perfect for those who prefer the traditional cruise dining experience. Large tables afford great dinner conversation, while intimate tables for two are also available - the room can seat up to 456 guests but never feels crowded.

The delicious menu has been crated by Relais & Chateaux, a world-renown name in fine dining with favourites like filet mignon, mahi mahi and, of course, baked Alaska.

Other no-fee restaurants include La Terrazza, Stars Supper Club and the Pool Bar & Grill. Some of the lounges also serve light breakfasts or lunch options, as well as afternoon tea.

For a real gastronomic treat, be sure to book a table at one of the for-charge venues at least once during your voyage. Le Champagne offers a tasting menu with small dishes that have been carefully chosen to perfectly complement the fine wines.

Meanwhile, Seishin is a stunning Asian-themed restaurant serving a fusion menu of contemporary dishes from sushi and bento boxes through to a nine-course feast. It's a stylish location with crisp white linens and beautiful orchids on every table.

On-board entertainment and activities

The Show Lounge is a sizable venue with space for 450 guests. It has theatre-style seating but with large, comfortable chairs. Performances include comedy, cabaret and concerts, while films are also sometimes shown.

For something a bit more intimate, the various lounges typically offer live music in the evenings, providing the perfect atmosphere for drinking your favourite tipple and discussing the day's events.

Traditional cruise activities like bingo, quizzes, enrichment lectures and demonstrations are all offered, while those who like to spend time shopping will enjoy the boutiques.

Other options include a casino and a games room, while there's also a library and an adequately sized internet cafe.

Spas and fitness facilities

Whether you want to unwind or work off a few calories, the expansive Spa at Silversea is the place to go. This massive space measures more than 8,300 square feet and includes indoor and outdoor relaxation areas and treatment rooms for massages and body wraps. It also includes a thermal suite with heated chairs, a Turkish bath and steam rooms, as well as separate men's and women's saunas.

There are four whirlpools on the ship - perfect for relaxing tired muscles - and a resort-style pool ideal for a few laps or enjoying a bit of water fun.

An expansive gym features various exercise machines and the large windows give a real sense of spaciousness to the area. There's also a fitness studio with plenty of space for aerobics classes, yoga and Pilates.

Cabins

The Silver Spirit features all-suite accommodation and every room has a view - most have balconies. The vessel has the largest accommodation in the fleet and even the smallest rooms measure over 312 square feet, making them perfect for those seeking luxury cruise deals.

Conversely, the most luxurious rooms are the Owners' Suites. There are two of these, which can measure up to 1,668 square feet and include luxurious extras like a stocked mini-bar, a whirlpool bathtub and a fully-certified butler.
