This was our first cruise with Silversea. We were a "little" disappointed. To start with the positives; the crew were fantastic and a delightful bunch of people. the suite (we had a vista suite - crossing over from Iceland to Greenland in late September was not a time for splashing out on a balcony) was a good size and had all the amenities that were needed. A full breakfast served in the suite was the height of decadence. Due to bad weather the ship was late arriving for the start of our cruise and Silversea did a marvellous job of looking after us, providing both a light lunch and a dinner at a hotel before we eventually joined the ship.

The food on board was good in the main restaurant and superb in La Terrazza. Our gripe with the main restaurant was a limited choice on the menu - usually 3 items per course - and some of those were a bit "way out". The quantity of the serving was also rather small. We could have and did on occasion, ask for extra veg or potatoes and it was possible to order items not on the menu but this was not made at all clear. The restaurant was self service for breakfast and lunch and although the ship was a relatively small size the servery area was very crowded.

There is no panorama lounge on the ship so there really was nowhere to sit and watch the world go by. There was a lounge at the rear but that is not the same as having one at the front of the ship.

We like smaller size ships but we have reservations about this one.
Quality of Food4
Good in teh mian restaurant; superb in the alternative one

Shore Excursions3
Having learned from experience, we did most of our excursions on our own. The ship excursions were satisfactory and, compared to some other lines we have cruise with, relatively good value for money
Staff5
The Maitre'd in La Terrazza. A New Zealand lady who just knew how to look after you without being effusive

We are looking to try a smaller size ship and would love to find a luxury cruise. Could you recommend a quality smaller vessel please that you have had good experiences on. Our preferred area of travel would be Indian Ocean and South Africa. Many thanks and all comments gratefully received.
