Seabourn - Seabourn Spirit
Seabourn Spirit
The second vessel to be launched for the Seabourn Cruises fleet, the Seabourn Spirit was completed in 1989 and is identical to its sister ships the Legend and Pride.
Like the rest of the company's liners, the Spirit has been designed to be the ultimate in luxury. With highly trained and friendly staff, through to the finest dining, elegant decor and spacious, comfortable accommodation, you're sure to be well looked after during a cruise on this vessel.
The Spirit generally travels between around the Mediterranean, with a number of ports of call in Europe like Venice, Dubrovnik, Naples, Civitavecchia, Monaco, Barcelona and Lisbon.
In addition, the liner often traverses the Atlantic to provide voyages in the Caribbean. Destinations include San Juan, Prickly Pear Island, the Virgin Islands and St Thomas.
It is also scheduled for a few Panama Canal crossings, taking passengers to places on the western coast of Central America like San Juan del Sur and Puerto Caldera.
Ship stats and features
Passenger capacity: 212 Year entered service: 1989 Beam (ship width): 62.9 feet Draught (ship depth): 16.8 feet Length: 439.9 feet Tonnage: 9,975 Crew: 160 Maximum speed: 16 knots Number of passenger decks: 6 Number of lifts: 3 Number of swimming pools: 1 Number of cabins: 106
Food, cuisine and dining
Meal times are, quite simply, a pleasure on the Spirit. The Restaurant is the main dining venue and it's an elegant space, decorated in subtle earthy tones and with crisp white table linens.
Dinner is a candlelit affair with fine china and high-quality silverware. Passengers typically dressing up for the occasion and formal nights are held regularly. As would be expected, the service is top-notch.
There are no set dinner services and guests can choose to sit at intimate tables for two. Larger tables are also available for the chance to meet other passengers and enjoy some friendly conversation.
For those looking for a more casual dining option, then the Veranda Cafe could be the ideal choice. Located near the pool, it offers breakfast and lunch buffets and becomes Restaurant 2, a bistro setting, at dinner time.
Afternoon tea is a favourite activity on the Spirit. It's held in the Constellation Lounge every day and serves up a mouth-watering selection of finger sandwiches, pastries, cakes and of course, the best quality tea prepared however you like it.
Room service is also available.
On-board entertainment and activities
There are a number of public spaces scattered around the Spirit, giving passengers plenty of options of places to go.
For a quiet cuppa and some breathtaking views, the Constellation Lounge is a good choice. Located above the bridge, it offers Early Risers' coffee and tea. Later in the day it's also host to events like quizzes and other activities.
If you'd prefer something a bit livelier, The Club is a vibrant bar and lounge that often features live music. And if you enjoy late night dancing, this is definitely the place to be.
Other options include The Casino, which has a number of games and slot machines, as well as The Library where you can borrow books and DVDs or have a look at the daily newspapers.
If you enjoy a bit of cabaret or a Las Vegas-style revue, then the Magellan Lounge is ideal. The space is large enough to accommodate all passengers, so you needn't worry about missing a performance, while it's also used as the venue for enrichment programmes and lectures during the day.
Depending on the ports of call, the Spirit can also make use of its fold-out water sports marina. From here, passengers can try activities like water-skiing, banana boating and kayaking and there's also a steel mesh enclosure for those who want to swim safely in the sea.
Spas and fitness facilities
The gorgeous Spa at Seabourn is a tranquil and relaxing setting that has been elegantly decorated with flowing fabrics and soothing colours. Treatments available include massages and body wraps, as well as facials and salon services like manicures, pedicures and hair styling.
A fully equipped gym is available while fitness classes are also held throughout the day. There's also a thermal suite with both a steam room and sauna.
Massage Moments is a popular event, and it's not hard to see why: every day, complimentary massages are provided on the Sun Deck, helping to ensure that all passengers are completely relaxed and tension-free.
Cabins
All of the rooms on the Spirit are classified as suites, meaning that they have separate sleeping and sitting areas. But these vary by size, location and amenities and there are nine different price categories, meaning that whether you're looking for a luxury cruise deal, or to really splash some cash, you're sure to find accommodation that matches your desires.
The largest rooms are the Owners Suites, which measure up to 575 square metres. These include two bathrooms and a fully furnished balcony, as well as a bookshelf stocked with a number of titles.
No matter which room you select, it will include a walk-in, illuminated closet, a flat-screen television, personalised stationery and a mini-bar with a stocked refrigerator.
