We have done many cruises, with a different lines, to find the one that suits us best. This time Seabourn Sojourn.
A lovely ship with a boutique feel, we always go with an open mind and to be honest we were very impressed, the suite, V1 grade was superb, the service was second to none, waiters and bartenders, chefs and stewards, remembered your name, what you liked to drink or eat and when to expect you. Nothing was too much trouble, even the officers were mixing and friendly with it.
Suite. One of the best we have had, plenty of room and a good size balcony. The housekeepers were very good the room service also. A walk in closet and a washroom with space. The cruise was all inclusive so any and all drinks you needed were provided in the suite.
Entertainment. This was very good, we were impressed because we were expecting lower key, not so grand shows, because of the size of the ship, but we were pleasantly surprised by the high standard.
Food. Here was the one disappointment. The main dining room was surprisingly ordinary in the quality of the food, many other cruise lines have been better. The alternative - Restaurant 2- a tasting? 5 course set menu, may have suited some, but not to our liking and left feeling hungry so we cancelled our other reservation.
The one high point was the Colonade, the breakfast buffet was the best afloat, as was the lunch buffet, both of which offered orders from the menu as well. Jez ,the chef, was exellent and could not do enough to ensure the food was perfect and his guests were happy, toured all the tables at dinner to see all was well. The evening dinner here was superb every time. The service was exellent, plates carried to your table, drinks always topped up, probably up with the best we have experienced.
In general. We will definately go back to Seabourn, in a warmer climate, to take advantage of the lido and watersports off the stern and recline on the sunbeds on the balcony, neither of which were practicle in the Baltic in May! We found Seabourn totally relaxing and really enjoyed the all inclusive aspect, which, if you work it out makes this 6 star cruise line great value for money. Great company and so much space everywhere you went onboard. The square is a great concept providing a first class coffee shop, library and guest services all in one. We also liked the optional dress code which works very well and makes for a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere somehow, although to be fair most lines now adopt this code.
Finally. We would put Seabourn up with the best and would definately go again, I think we have tried enough now to be able to say we prefer the smaller, more personal and intimate, more friendly ships, on which cruising is still a refined pampered pleasure (the mammoth butlins on sea monsters are not for us) and to date, of those who provide this, our favourite cruise line is Oceania.
