Cruise Line: Seabourn Times cruised before: 10+
Cruise Ship: Seabourn Sojourn Sailed: May, 2011
Destination: Baltic Age: 56-65
Cabin: Suite Occasion: Annual/regular holiday
We have done many cruises, with a different lines, to find the one that suits us best. This time Seabourn Sojourn.

A lovely ship with a boutique feel, we always go with an open mind and to be honest we were very impressed, the suite, V1 grade was superb, the service was second to none, waiters and bartenders, chefs and stewards, remembered your name, what you liked to drink or eat and when to expect you. Nothing was too much trouble, even the officers were mixing and friendly with it.

Suite. One of the best we have had, plenty of room and a good size balcony. The housekeepers were very good the room service also. A walk in closet and a washroom with space. The cruise was all inclusive so any and all drinks you needed were provided in the suite.

Entertainment. This was very good, we were impressed because we were expecting lower key, not so grand shows, because of the size of the ship, but we were pleasantly surprised by the high standard.

Food. Here was the one disappointment. The main dining room was surprisingly ordinary in the quality of the food, many other cruise lines have been better. The alternative - Restaurant 2- a tasting? 5 course set menu, may have suited some, but not to our liking and left feeling hungry so we cancelled our other reservation.
The one high point was the Colonade, the breakfast buffet was the best afloat, as was the lunch buffet, both of which offered orders from the menu as well. Jez ,the chef, was exellent and could not do enough to ensure the food was perfect and his guests were happy, toured all the tables at dinner to see all was well. The evening dinner here was superb every time. The service was exellent, plates carried to your table, drinks always topped up, probably up with the best we have experienced.

In general. We will definately go back to Seabourn, in a warmer climate, to take advantage of the lido and watersports off the stern and recline on the sunbeds on the balcony, neither of which were practicle in the Baltic in May! We found Seabourn totally relaxing and really enjoyed the all inclusive aspect, which, if you work it out makes this 6 star cruise line great value for money. Great company and so much space everywhere you went onboard. The square is a great concept providing a first class coffee shop, library and guest services all in one. We also liked the optional dress code which works very well and makes for a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere somehow, although to be fair most lines now adopt this code.

Finally. We would put Seabourn up with the best and would definately go again, I think we have tried enough now to be able to say we prefer the smaller, more personal and intimate, more friendly ships, on which cruising is still a refined pampered pleasure (the mammoth butlins on sea monsters are not for us) and to date, of those who provide this, our favourite cruise line is Oceania.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for. I agree with you that the smaller ships are the best. I have never been on any of the monsters and would not. The cheaper end of the market MSC is also a no no. I will definitely try Seabourn in the future. We are at the moment looking forward to a European river cruise.

One problem with Seabourn too many of the passengers are legless by lunch time, I have never experienced so many drunks in one place, loved the ship etc etc but would not go again for the aforementioned reason. Too many people getting their moneys worth with booze

We have cruised with Seabourn over 15 times during the last ten years and have only ever see one drunk, which was just after lunch and that is the sum total. Because drinks are available at any time it is not necessary. We normally retire after the show or entertainment and have heard that some people have got merry in the early hours but have not witnessed it. I agree completely with the comment by Davison.

I have to strongly disagree with this comment. we have cruised many times with Seabourn and have never come across passengers 'legless by lunchtime'. I have never ever seen anyone the worse for wear through drink. I acknowledge that because it is all incluusive it could possibly encourage people to drink more than they would but generally have found the calibre of passengers onboard seabourn are above this sort of thing!!

We were on Sojourn for the last segment of the world cruise, and like you we found the meals in the MDR to be disappointing. Yes the Colonnade was far better. Our biggest disappointment was the temperature of the food in the MDR even after making requests for it to be served hotter. The wait staff could not do enough for you and people like Christian, Craig and Constantine we would like to name as being outstanding. We were so pleased with our cruise that we have booked to go on Quest, so hope that Seabourn will do something about the temperature of the food in the MDR.

If you have holidayed in Greece you may have found the food was warm rather than hot - this is their preference. Also, eating hot food is a cause of cancer of the oesophagus. So be warned.

I'd be interested to read more about this cause of cancer. Can you let us know where you have received this information from?
