At the end of October 2008 we thought that we give Seabourn another go as the trip the year before was most enjoyable except for the bumpy weather conditions on the transatlantic. The trip this time was again T/A but further south out of Lisbon towards Fort Lauderdale via Funchal we thought. A day into the cruise and we are advised by another passenger that we were not stopping at Funchal but going straight across North of Madeia. Reasons for this we were advised was due to engine transmissions problems however it did not appear to affect the daily speed of the ship and we slowed as we were 2 days out of the States. Other issues were the food at times was not as good as before and denied certain dishes on occasions, there was also a slight downturn with the service in the dining room.
Previously we had also ben offered gift toileries and on departure an overnight travel iyems, these were not forth coming on this ocasion.
All in all it seems cost cuttings was the real issue here but we were given 100 dollars per person for the non Funchal experience which we were looking forward ie afternoon tea at Reid's Hotel .
Will we return to Seabourn probably but next could b the last if there is no obvious improvement.

Perhaps it is the cross Atlantic which spoils things. WE have had about 5 excellent cruises usually in the cheapest cabins and have enjoyed them all. Particularly Scandinavia and the far east.
