Seabourne Odyssey - We sailed on the maiden transatlantic journey on Seabourne Odyssey. Never having sailed on this line before, we were very interested to see how she compared to other cruises we had taken. The guests who had been on larger ships previously, were not happy at first because the Odyssey was smaller than they were used to, and those who had previously sailed on Seabourne's smaller vessels were not happy because this ship was 'so big'. The first few days out to sea was all about comparisons. When we were all acclimatised to the ship, the feeling was generally a good one.
The crew were excellent and nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Drinks are included in the fare, so we thought we would have to ask any time we wanted one. However, cocktails were in abundance around the pool, in fact there was a different cocktail being offered every half hour or so. Champagne was plentiful as of course was anything else guests required.
The staterooms were a very good size and of course very comfortable.
The dining room was the one thing that let the ship down. Our food, on many nights, was only warm, the meat was either underdone or overdone and the galley didn't seem able to cope with the number of people to be served at one time, which resulted in long waits for any food to appear. Although the head waiters apologised each time, this state continued throughout the whole trip.
Entertainment was good, again better than on the smaller Seabourne ships, but not as good as the large ships
Our overall view of the ship was excellent except for the dining room.
