Seabourn - Seabourn Legend
Seabourn Legend
The Seabourn Legend was built in 1992. It was originally owned by Kloster Cruise and called the Royal Viking Queen.
After changing hands a number of times, the vessel joined its identical sister ships, the Pride and Spirit in the Seabourn Cruises fleet in 1996.
It's easy to see why this Seabourn is a favourite amongst seasoned cruisers. Every effort has been made to ensure that each passenger is completely comfortable throughout their voyage and it's obvious that staff members have been carefully trained to be extremely perceptive to guests' every desire.
The Legend generally sails around the Mediterranean, calling at ports in Italy, France, Spain, Monaco and Greece. It also offers voyages further afield, such as trips through the Suez Canal to Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore and Indonesia.
Voyages on the Legend are primarily aimed at an older clientele that's seeking a sophisticated and elegant cruise experience. Typically, passengers are over 50 and enjoy good food and a mature atmosphere. Younger guests are, of course, welcome although the ship really isn't equipped for children.
Ship stats and features
Passenger capacity: 212 Year entered service: 1996 Beam (ship width): 62.9 feet Draught (ship depth): 16.4 feet Length: 442.9 feet Tonnage: 9,961 Crew: 160 Maximum speed: 19.2 knots Number of passenger decks: 6 Number of lifts: 3 Number of swimming pools: 1 Number of cabins: 106
Food, cuisine and dining
The Legend's award-winning dining is sure to leave passengers perfectly satiated and, quite possibly, talking about the cuisine and service long after the voyage is over.
A popular option for breakfast and lunch, the Veranda Cafe is a buffet-style venue that also offers a few tables outside for al fresco dining. Its simple decor provides a relaxing and casual atmosphere and lunch menus include items like chicken fajitas, vegetable lasagne, hamburgers, stir fry, soups and salads.
In the evenings, the space becomes Restaurant 2, an intimate bistro that serves tasting plates at dinner, giving you a fabulous variety of foods to try.
For a more traditional meal, The Restaurant is the main dining room. It serves three meals a day, with dinner being a special occasion every night. There are no set service times, so you can enjoy your meal whenever you feel like it and you can also choose where and with whom you sit.
Complimentary wine is served with lunch and dinner, although if you prefer a specific vintage then a variety of fine bottles are also available for purchase.
Afternoon tea is served every day in the Constellation Lounge and room service is also available. During main meal times, menu items from The Restaurant can be delivered course-by-course to your cabin, allowing you to enjoy a full meal in the privacy of your stateroom.
On-board entertainment and activities
The enrichment programme on the Legend offers something for everyone, whether you're interested in cookery and food, wine tasting, technology or health and wellbeing.
Lounges and public rooms are ideal spaces for catching up on a bit of reading, having a quiet conversation or enjoying your favourite coffee drink or cocktail. Options include the Atrium and the Observation Lounge.
One popular feature is the fold-out marina that's available on select port days. From this part of the ship, you can enjoy a banana boat ride, try water skiing or borrow a kayak.
In the evenings, The Show Lounge hosts small-scale cabaret acts and concerts, while those wishing to dance the night away should head to The Club.
Spas and fitness facilities
The gorgeous Spa at Seabourn may be small, but like everything else on the ship, it provides a wonderful atmosphere and truly remarkable service. The relaxation room is sure to help you forget about troubles in the outside world, while massages, body wraps, facials, manicures and a host of other treatments can be provided.
Elsewhere, passengers can enjoy some time in a sauna or steam room. For a bit of a workout, there's a gym equipped with a number of exercise machines, while fitness classes are also offered.
Poolside mini-massages are provided free-of-charge every day. And for a bit of romantic relaxation, why not reserve one of the whirlpools for a private session with your loved one? You'll even be provided with caviar and champagne.
Cabins
On the Legend, every room is a suite with an outside view. These are categorised into nine price ranges, so even those seeking luxury cruise deals might be able to find something to suit their budget.
A number of rooms have Juliette balconies, while some of the more plush accommodation has a larger balcony area furnished with sun loungers.
The biggest rooms are the Owners Suites, which measure around 575 square feet. Meanwhile, the standard cabins are also quite spacious - at about 277 square feet, they are approximately 100 square feet larger than the industry standard.
Every room has its own private bathroom, decorated with marble and equipped with a full-size bath. Sitting areas have flat-screen televisions and DVD players, and there's a mini bar in every cabin. For an added bit of luxury, fresh fruit baskets and flowers are also provided.
