Splendour of the Seas would benefit from a refurb although it is overall a very beautiful ship with a stunning lobby and dining room. Our balcony cabin on deck 7 was spacious and light but the furniture was a little tired. The ship seemed a little small at times, especially in the Windjammer - there are just not enough seats for people. It didn't help that some people chose to sit in there and have a lengthy coffee after lunch when they could see hoards of people walking around with their food looking for somewhere to sit. The temperature on our cruise was far too hot - 40 degrees in Turkey. However, the ports of call were very interesting, apart from Corfu which we found quite dull. The donkey ride to get up the cliffs at Santorini is not for the faint-hearted - the donkeys storm up the cliff path and take bends like racing cars. With donkeys storming down at the same time I found it very scary. It was very scary for people trying to walk down as well. My teenage sons thought it was better than Alton Towers. There is a cable car as an alternative - if you don't like heights like me this is also scary! Got some amazing photos at Oia - a taxi there was 20 euros and the bus ride back was 1.40 euros each. We chose to get a taxi into Dubrovnik too as this was around £9 in Kunas and worked out cheaper than the shuttle bus for the four of us.
The reserving of sun-loungers was very bad - a lot of people must have got up very early to put something on them and didn't use them until a lot later. Again, many people wandered around with towels looking for somewhere to sit on sea days. There was a lot of poolside entertainment although this isn't our thing and we were quite happy to sit in the quieter areas of the ship.
