We enjoyed our week's cruise of the western Mediterranean after the initial boarding experience at Civitavecchia. There were hundreds of people queuing to board - many of which had not completed the health questionnaires and so slowed down the whole process. We did feel like cattle going to market and were wondering whether we were going to regret booking on such a big ship.
However, the ship was extremely clean and despite being so big, easy to find our way around. Our balcony cabin was spacious with more than enough storage space. All of the staff we dealt with were polite, courteous and helpful. We ate in the dining room each evening. There was ample choice and portions were adequate. Quality of food was good, service excellent. We did avoid the Windjammer restaurant, even though we thought we would prefer more informal dining. It was overcrowded and with people stampeding towards the servery as if they had not eaten for days!
We did two shore excursions- one to Monte Carlo and Monaco and one wine tasting/north coast of Majorca. Both were informative and well organised but quite expensive.
There was a shuttle offered to take passengers from ship to Genoa but if you are able to walk easily there is no need to bother as it only took us five minutes.
The only port we were disappointed in was Caligry, Sardinia, which we found dirty and the people not particularly welcoming.
Entertainment was of a high standard. We particularly enjoyed the Elton John tribute and Ice Show.
Do be mindful that alcohol is very expensive on board and a service charge is automatically added on top of prices shown.
Overall a very enjoyable trip and we will certainly consider cruising with Royal Caribbean again.
Quality of Food3
Breakfast and evening meals in restaurant. Avoided Windjammer but Promenade Cafe on deck five was great for filled rolls, pizzas, cookies and fresh fruit - often fairly quiet too.
Entertainment3
We did not see all of them but Elton John tribute and ice show were both great.
Shore Excursions3
We did two. Monaco and Monte Carlo and Majorca wine tasting. Both very enjoyable. Vineyard owners extended a very warm welcome and we shared some lovely wines.
Staff4
The waiting staff in the restaurant who got to know our likes/dislikes and welcomed us each evening. Our cabin attendant always had a smile on his face and kept the cabin clean at all times.
