This is the 4th time we have travelled on a Royal Caribbean cruise and would thoroughly recommend it. It was a special occasion for my husband who turned 60 this year so we splashed out on a junior suite with a balcony and were not disappointed. The bed was HUGE we kept losing each other in the night!! LOL. I also requested a bottle of champagne in the cabin on the 2nd day, although this did not arrive on time, there was no problem, it was there the next evening and there were rose petals scattered on the floor from the door and on the bed. Very romantic.
One thing we both enjoyed about RCC is the vast array of food and restaurants, we did not eat in the sit down restaurant, prefering the 'help yourself' option which allowed more flexibility for time etc. I would suggest however, that if you take this option that you do not pay the tips before you go. We did and were surprised to find that we received vouchers already pre-paid to the waiter, assistant waiter, head waiter. We knew we would receive vouchers, but thought we could give them to the members of staff whom we wanted to tip.
As we live in Malta, we flew to Rome and then took a shuttle bus to Civatevecchia, but returning to Rome, we took the train which was a lot cheaper and ok, even with luggage. The voyage was around the Mediterranean, which we have done before, so we did not avail ourselves of the excursions, but did our own thing and visited places we wanted to see. All again very easy to do with public transport and the shuttle buses provided by RCC.
One word of warning, do not go on the Navigator of the Seas if you like small ships. It is really big and a bit daunting to begin with, but as the week went on, we were able to find our way around very easily. The entertainment on board was excellent, something different every night.
Prices onboard are in US$ and were reasonable considering the exchange rate at the moment. We did not bother with any of the wine packages, but found the cold drink package that a lot of people had was excellent value for money. The tea, coffee, soft drinks (not cola or pepsi) and ice cream was not stop and available all day. We would definitely recommend RCC to anyone who wants a little bit of luxury and variety out of cruising.
Have a good holiday one and all
