Royal Caribbean Cruises - Majesty of the Seas
Majesty of the Seas
Launched in 1992 and christened by Queen Sonja of Norway, the Majesty of the Seas is a Sovereign class ship with two sisters in the Royal Caribbean Cruises fleet: Monarch of the Seas and Sovereign of the Seas.
In 2007, at the age of 15, the vessel went through a substantial refurbishment project, costing more than £20 million. The work was greatly needed, and the result was a ship that looked brand new and which provided all of the bells and whistles found on many of the fleet's younger liners.
Today, holidaymakers looking for a cruise should be sure to consider a voyage on the Majesty of the Seas. It typically departs from Miami on three and four-night trips around the Caribbean, with ports of call in sunny destinations like Nassau, Key West and Coco Cay.
Passenger capacity: 2,774 Year entered service: 1992 Beam (ship width): 105.9 feet Draught (ship depth): 24.9 feet Length: 879.9 feet Tonnage: 73,941 Crew: 827 Maximum speed: 22 knots Number of passenger decks: 11 Number of lifts: 11 Number of swimming pools: 2 Number of cabins: 1,190
Food, cuisine and dining
Dining options are plentiful on the Majesty of the Seas and hungry guests won't stay that way for long with so many delicious restaurants to choose from. There are two main dining rooms, called the Moonlight and Starlight, and both are welcoming venues with attractive decor and menu items that will leave you feeling satisfied. In addition, there are plenty of alternative and specialty restaurants for you to choose from: • Windjammer Marketplace • Compass Deli • Sorrento's • Johnny Rockets • Latte-tudes coffee house If you want to enjoy a meal or snack in your cabin, complimentary 24-hour room service is also available, although a service charge will apply for late-night deliveries.
On-board entertainment and activities
If you want to enjoy a quiet drink and some amazing 360-degree views, then head up to the Viking Crown Lounge. This is a trademark of the Royal Caribbean Fleet and a favourite spot for passengers who cruise regularly. Other bars and lounges include Boleros, Spectrum and the Schooner Bar.
The main show venue is called A Chorus Line and has the look and feel of a land-based theatre. Performances are large-scale events - Las Vegas style revues and cabaret with bright costumes, as well as high-tech sound and lighting.
Passengers who want to keep in touch with friends back home will also be pleased to know that Wi-Fi is offered throughout the ship, meaning you can bring your high-tech gadgets with you and enjoy internet access throughout the voyage. An internet cafe can be found in the library. In addition, there's a large casino, several shops and a nightclub. The Ocean Adventure kids' club is also a popular feature for children aged 3 to 11.
Spas and fitness facilities
Relaxing is generally easy on a cruise ship, and that's certainly true on the Majesty of the Seas, thanks to its vast selection of wellbeing facilities.
For those who like to unwind with some exercise, sports facilities include a rock-climbing wall and a basketball half court, as well as two swimming pools. Meanwhile, the ShipShape Fitness Centre is fully equipped with exercise machines and classes are provided throughout the day.
The large spa is also a favourite for those who prefer a bit of pampering and there are two jacuzzis to help relieve tired muscles.
Cabins
Whether you're looking for cruise deals or some truly lush accommodation, there's likely to be a room on the Majesty of the Seas that suits your needs.
The ship is home to 1,190 cabins in 17 different price categories. All quarters are comfortable, well appointed and include flat-screen TVs and private bathrooms. However, only 62 have private balconies, so be sure to book well in advance if that's something you'd like to have included.
