Independence of the Seas

Overview: This ship’s ‘wow’ factor is its connection with water in the design of a dramatic water theme park on the pool deck – recommended for families with children. It is now based year-round in the UK for cruises from Southampton, although the onboard currency remains the US dollar, which makes

Just returned from a short holiday to Norway on The Independence of the Seas. This was our first time on this ship and has to be very much recommended, especially for families as it is a friendly family ship. The decor of the ship is lovely and although the ship is huge, it is easy to get around, although this may take a few days as there is so much to see. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially in the dining areas. The food is very good and varied and you also have the opportunity to dine in the self service restaurant The Windjammer which is more casual but the menu has something for everyone. The evening entertainment varies from song and dance shows to jugglers and magicians etc and there are lots of other venues around the ship with all kinds of different entertainment. For the energetic there is a fabulous gym and a climbing with with crazy golf thrown in for a more relaxed exercise. Don't let the size of this ship put you off as it has so much going for it. There are a few down sides to this ship mainly due to cutbacks. There was hardly any toiletries. Just two bars of soap and a dispenser of shampoo screwed on to the wall in the bathroom There was no hair conditioner, shower gel or shower cap, so remember to take your own. The nightly chocolates have also been done away with which is quite disappointing. Also in the photography shop the price for a daytime formal picture is cheaper than the evening one taken on the dressed up formal evenings. Just something to be aware of. The price of the drinks are also more expensive on this ship than on any other ship we have been on so budget accordingly.
