Adventure of the Seas

OVERVIEW: Adventure of the Seasis a large, floating leisure resort. It provides a host of facilities, rather like a small town, yet offers a healthy amount of space per passenger. Too large to go through the Panama Canal, it limits its itineraries almost exclusively to the Caribbean, where only a fe

We parked at ABP parking at Southampton which was approx. 1/2 mile from the ship. The stevedores took the luggage from us at the car park and we didn't see it again until we were on board. We then boarded a minibus to take us from the ship and found ourselves on board within a few minutes thanks to the very efficient check in service.

On board we went to our cabin a Grand Suite, we normally have a larger Owner's Suite but apart from being a little smaller and not having a separate shower cubicle in the bathroom - there was very little difference and all the usual suite benefits were the same.

We ate 5 times in Portofino the ships speciality (extra charge) restaurant, and were a little disappointed as the food was not as well cooked and the general atmosphere wasn't as good as on the same restaurant on the Independence of the Seas. Contrary to that comment the food in the main dining room and the casual Windjammer cafe was much better than we experienced on the Independence. Maybe the food budget has increased in 2013.

The service on the ship was generally excellent.

The shore excursions were generally very good except for a problem with tendering at Villefranche when French union rules decided that the local tender operaters had to have an hours break before continuing. This delayed the ship from it's evening departure, but that apart no problems.

The ship's entertainment was pretty good as it usually is with this cruise line.

We were a little apprehensive about going in August as the ship would be full of kids but they were not a problem as they were well entertained in their own areas.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and even had dinner with the Captain

Quality of Food
Portofino's we ate 5 times but not as good as expected other than Spiedino di Mare and Ciuppin i.e. the fish was better than the meat which wasn't cooked correctly The main dining room served excellent food and exceeded our expectations.

Entertainment
Best was Bobby Davro Worst was last night - tribute to ship's crew and juggler

Shore Excursions
Problem with tendering at Villefranche but this was actually the best excursion despite the delay through the French union rules The excursions were quite expensive and some were quickly sold out - so book early

Staff
