Not having cruised since 1964 (aged 13), I wondered whether P & O would live up to my expectations and the wonderful memories of sailing to Australia back then. I needn't have worried. From the moment we arrived at Southampton Docks, we were looked after admirably. The service we experienced on board was of the highest standard. We had an inside cabin which contained everything we could possibly need and was very clean. Towels were changed every day, sometimes twice a day. Unfortunately, we experienced rough weather (storm force 9/10 at one point) and were unable to dock in Ibiza but that was just one of those things. There was always plenty to keep you occupied on board, so it wasn't a real problem for us but it was difficult for the disabled to move around the ship. The evening entertainment was second to none and was provided mainly by the Footlights Theatre Company. They provided new shows every couple of evenings and were extremely professional. I would go as far to say that the shows were comparable to the West End. Absolutely fantastic. The shore excursions were good value. The only disadvantage we found was that you had to book a good 48 hours before docking, which didn't give us much time for the first port of call. Having said that, they were good value and of good variety. The food on board was exceptionally good, as was the service in the Adriatic Restaurant. I would certainly recommend P&O and look forward to travelling again on the Oceana.
