Just returned from a fabulous cruise around South America on NCL Norwegian Sun. Took their fly-cruise package which gave us two nights in Sheraton hotel Santiago. Great pool area, had a wonderful meal in Elcid , their speciality restaurant. Puddings were a work of art and delicious !

Smooth transfer to valpariso where we joined the ship. Our balcony cabin, deck 9 mid-ship port side was spacious, with ample wardrobe space and a compact shower room. Cabin stewards kept it clean throughout our time on board.

During the days at sea there was plenty to do. We enjoyed line dancing , learnt to tango , went to trivia and music quizzes. Art and craft classes also available.

Meals at the Seven Seas and Four Seasons were of a very good standardas was the waiter service. The only speciality venue at which we ate was Il Adagio, the Italian restaurant, where the food and service was excellent and worth the additional small supplement. Breakfast at the seven seas was leisurely with waiter service, we preferred this to self- service in The Garden Cafe. Lunch at the garden cafe would often result in us taking our food to eat in the nearby bars , as it quickly filled up.

We went to the shows at the stardust theatre where the Jean Ann ryan Company of singers and dancers entertained us for about 40 minutes. we would rate their shows as average , however their final Songs from the Shows was lengthier and of a good standard.
We particularly enjoyed the Paula Koreki trio who sang smooth jazz in the Windjammer bar. We also liked to listen to Leon gregory sing piano favourites in the same place. Our enjoyment was somewhat marred by the open corridor behind the singers and the resultant noise from passers by.

At each port we took an NCL tour as we were newcomers to the area and to cruising. Although expensive, apart from our chosen tour of Puerto Montt and Chacabucco, we felt they were good value for money.
Our highlights were the city tour of Montevideo, walking tour of Punta arenas and the battlefield Tour on the Falklands. A special mentionmust be made of the Welsh tea house on the Patagonia tour, it was sumptuous.

We took a six hour tour of Buenos Aires on disembarkation. We visited the Recoleta cemetary to view Eva Peron's mausoleum, the Casa Rosada, The la Boca Area followed by lunch in a local restaurant. We were then taken to The Sheraton hotel where we checked into our room immediately. We enjoyed a hot buffet meal there one evening and the hotel was well placed for visiting the shopping areas.

This was our first cruise and as such we could find no fault with our NCL experience.

Hi Thanks for your earlier reply. We are going on this trip next week! Can you tell me, did you have to pay an entry fee in Chile? Did you fly from Manchester to Heathrow and on, if so how did that go? Chris

Did not pay an entry fee in Chile. Flew from Manchester to Heathrow. Delayed due to the snow before Christmas. Plane was deiced at heathrow so an hour late leaving. At Sao Paulo airport we went around in circles before finding departure area for Santiago. It was at ground level. Very warm in this area ( take a t shirt and change would be my tip ) Our passports were taken from us and then returned with our boarding passes. a bit chaotic. Have a good holiday.

Thansk for the info. We are taking this cruise on Feb 14th. Can you please tell me if you use local currency in Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. We are American and I don't know if we need to convert US$ to local currencies. Thanks much....glad you had a great time.

Used Chilean pesos, were told to take US dollars for Argentina, although accepted American dollars there was a constant need for conversion on shopkeepers part, so felt Argentinian pesos would have been better. Did not spend on Uruguayan day trip.

I'm going on this cruise on 28th feb . BA-Santiago. Can you tell me if you suffered from any really rough seas. Think that's the only thing I'm worried about really. And what about the weather in the South Atlantic? I've booked the NCl excursion Journey into Patagonia at Puerto Chacabuco. Is that the one you were disappointed with or did you do another one there? It is in fact the only NCL excursion I have booked, all the others I've organised privately with other cruisers. They cost a fraction of NCL's prices! Great to know that this cruise is worth all the money!

Rough seas for one afternoon around the Straights of Magellan, rode it out in four hours. Fortunately very calm as we were rounding Cape horn. Moderate seas on route to Falklands, infact a sunny morning for our land tour and it was not cold. Took waterproof jacket and wore layers . Our tour at Chacabuco was called Coyhaique & Simpson Valley a five and a half hour tour. Have a great time.

About £3, 600.00 per person. Have noticed that it is not doing this route December 2010.

Hi Thanks for that. Can I just ask, is it true that the Sun no longer has kettles in the rooms? Chris

We did not have a kettle but spoke to a lady at the end of the cruise who had requested one and had it a few days later.
