Young Person's Views on the Marco Polo...

I'm only 16 years old and this was my second ever cruise. I was a bit apprehensive after reading reviews on the internet about unfriendly, unhelpful staff. Also i read that there is nothing to do for people aged under 20 years or so. I found that yes, there was a lot of elder people on board, and the activities were especially for the older ages. But as a 16 year old I still enjoyed playing game shows and bingo.

The staff are EXTREMELY friendly and very helpful. I found myself rather bored on the ship because I didn't have much to do, and the staff always went out of their way to entertain me. I often found myself laughing at the waiters who would tell me jokes or teach me ukrainian. They always offered to let me join them when I was watching the evening entertainment and they offered me lots of advice on different aspects of life.

The show team on board were absolutely stunning. Their performances were slick and i thoroughly enjoyed watching the singers and dancers. The costumes were fabulous and the choreography was marvellous. Not forgetting the house band, they were superb and were able to learn new pieces rather quickly.

The general cleanliness of the ship was extremely good. I'd often find lads hoovering the carpets, scrubbing the decks, polishing. The cabin steward was friendly and always made animals out of towels and it was the cleverest thing I had seen onboard.

There was a lot of variety in food, and it tasted lovely. Whether you prefer being waited on in the Waldorf Restaurant, or helping yourself in Marco's Bistro, there is something for everyone and the wide variety in meals is great.

I was extremely looking forward to going home, but as the cruise progressed, i found my friendships growing stronger and everyone became a family to me. I found myself crying when saying goodbye to the bar staff, and all the other staff when i left this morning.

I would really like to return to the Marco Polo in the future and relax again.
Quality of Food5
There was a wide variety in food and we ate in the bistro for every meal. This is because it was quick and easy and you could eat as much or as little as you like.
Entertainment5
The show team were amazing. They were well rehearsed and knew exactly what they were doing. We had 2 guest acts on board, and they were specatacular. The evening caberet's were always fun to dance to and the singers were amazing.
Shore Excursions4
I didn't actually go on any excursions. My grandad and I decided to do our own thing, but from what I have seen on the ship's souvenir DVD, the excursions seemed very good.
Staff5
I loved the company of every member of staff on board. The cruise director Richard Sykes, a very bubbly personality and such a lively character with an amazing singing voice. There were 3 waiters who I became very good friends with and I found that every member of staff would walk past with a friendly smile and a hello for every passenger.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
There are no children's facilities on board this ship. I seriously wouldn't recommend it to families bringing children on board. There isn't anything for them to do due to the fact that this ship is aimed at older ages.
Onboard Activities5
There was lots of activities on board during the days at sea. Bingo, game clubs, craft clubs, radio club, choir club, gym sessions, dance classes. When the ship is docked, then there isn't as much choice as most people are off the ship. There were often games such as jakkalo, and shuffle board.
Cabins5
The size of the cabin was fine for it's use....sleeping and getting washed. The cleanliness was perfect. Cleaned twice a day and the beds are made very tidily.
Overall Rating5

We were also apprehensive about joining this cruise having read adverse comments on last year's trip but were pleasantly surprised on the standard of decor, food, entertainment and general cleanliness on board. All the staff and crew were pleasant and helpful and Richard Sykes a huge asset as cruise director. Our only grumbles concerned some shuttle bus and tender issues and the smoking policy on board (and passengers who complained about excessive cleaning!!!!)

You seem to have had a great time. Could this have something to do with the fact that you are obviously a very mature Young Person. So glad you and your Grand Dad did stuff together. Jacquie
