Overall we had a good cruise on P&O Arcadia. However we have had better service, organisation and choice of food on other ships.
We were in a restricted view cabin but there was enough natual light and we could see through the lifeboat. The cabin was spacious and well appointed and included a sofa and the bathroom had a small bath as well as a shower. Our cabin stewardess was excellent and even called us by our names which was a first!
The food was mostly British but good quality. There were some themed evenings at the buffet eg Italian but we were in the dining room then. The lunchtime buffet had very few mixed salads, there were only about 6 choices of dessert and no ice cream. There were often long queues at the buffet and we usually had to go to several different serving areas to get a full set of cutlery, plates and a tray. The food in the Meridian dining room was fine.
The evening shows by the theatre company in the Palladium theatre were excellent despite it being the singers and dancers' first week on the ship. The other entertainers included comedian Don McClean who was very good, a tenor and a female singer who were good and a magician who we didn't like. However most people wanted to go to the first sitting in the Palladium Theatre which meant you had to get there about an hour early to get a seat. The second sitting was only half full but it started at 10:45 so you can understand why people didn't want to go to it! Michael Nicholson the reporter did a good talk one afternoon and my partner enjoyed listening to Ray Alston play classical music in the Crow's Nest some afternoons.
The shops had a good range of goods including evening wear, jewellery, perfume, souvenirs, chocolates and toiletries and the prices were reasonable.
The ports of call were all interesting. The trips we booked were well organised and informative but as usual on cruises they were very expensive. St Petersburg cost over £100 per day but was worth it and unless you paid for an expensive visa we were told it had to be done on a trip. We wished we had done more on our own as most places were easily accessible from the port. We particularly enjoyed wandering round the mediaeval town of Tallin and a boat trip round Bruges which we did on our own.

I too was on this cruise and agree it was a good cruise. My preference is for second sitting and I cannot understand why the theatre filled so early. It could only have been from first sitting passengers as the shows always started at 8.45 and 10.45. As second sitting dinner commenced at 8.30 it would hardly have been practical for those passengers to go unless they skipped dinner. Perhaps the shows were more popular with first sitting passengers? Happy cruising. Richard
