Parking at Tilbury and embarkation was very well organised indeed. Our luggage was soon delivered to our cabin. We had selected one of the cheapest grade inside cabins and were delighted with it. Plenty of room and lots of storage space in drawers and wardrobe. Our room was excellently and magically cleaned and bed made (we never saw the steward).

We ate in the Waldorf Resaurant for lunches and dinners. Our prior selection of seating at a small table for 4 had been totally disregarded as we were allocated space on a large table for 10. On complaining we were told how difficult it would be to rearrange, but in fairness we were quickly moved to a table that suited us well. The waiting staff were hard working and friendly though there were some mistakes with the food orders (soon put right though). There were so many courses of great quality food available that we had to limit our choices at each meal, as were were on board for 8 nights. Our wine waiter was exceptionally knowledgable and she was happy to recommend a cheaper wine as easily as a more expensive one. The wine prices were very reasonable so we tried a different one each night from the large and varied range.

Between meals, tea and coffee were available on rear deck next to Marcos Bistro. The sometimes non-availability of mugs was a problem on more than one occasion. Afternoon tea was delightfully tempting with its plentiful supply of lovely cakes but we had to remember that we had to leave room for dinner.

We did not like the fact that smoking is allowed on board in many areas. You have to walk through bars to get to some parts of the ship and we felt we had to hold our breath. Another problem was the use of tenders to get on/off the ship at the smaller ports of call. They certainly slowed things down when everyone is keen to go at the same time.

We thoroughly enjoyed the evening shows but get there early if you want a good view of the stage. The arrangemet of seating was not ideal such that unless you were on the front row you were likely to find late arrivals blocking your view as the intermediate rows of seats were higher than the fixed seating! The entertainment staff were multi-talented and presented a range of stunning shows.

We had pre-booked our two excursions which were both full days as these seemed to be better value. We had thought them expensive when we booked but actually, taking into account the transport provided, quality guides, well planned visits and lovely meals included they were fairly priced. We particularly enjoyed the 'Norway in a Nutshell' excursion as that had been our main reason for booking this cruise. The Flam Railway was fantastic, our lunch superb and the afternoon coach trip stunning.

On our outings and from the ship from the ship, we saw plenty of snow and endless waterfalls which just kept getting bigger and better.

We have no hesitation in recommending this ship despite the few problems. The multinational staff were always helpful and friendly. The whole ship was constantly kept clean. It was good value for money. We will be on board again soon (perhaps to Iceland next time).
Quality of Food5
Excellent food and good service in the Waldorf Restaurant. Mugs for between meals tea /coffee sometimes ran out.
Entertainment4
Talented entertainment staff put on a popular and varied selection of shows. Seating left something to be desired.
Shore Excursions5
Loved the 'Norway in a Nutshell' (and one other) full day excursion. At other ports we could easily do our own thing.
Staff4
All staff were very friendly and willing to try to help.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities3
Always plenty of activities but no time for them all. Some (old radio shows) were a bit obtrusive for non-participating passengers nearby.
Cabins5
Pleasantly surprised that our lowest grade cabin was quite spacious. Lots of mirrors added to the feeling of space so we were never concerned that we lacked a window. We would be very happy with the same cabin next time.

Thanks for a lovely review. I've considered Marco Polo and now that Ocean Majesty is 'retiring' we need another small ship. It's nice to read a review from someone who doesn't let little things spoil their holiday. Iceland is brilliant, you'll love it. Judith
