The drinks prices are very reasonable in the bars on OV2 ( in May 2009 £2.80 for a pint of stella) for example. We did buy a bottle of Vodka from the shop for the cabin ( and £5 was added to our bill on top of the purchase price). We didnt see the captain during two weeks but he made the usual announcements about port arrivals etc . Getting onto drinks in the cabin. We used to buy a big bottle of water ( 2 litre one) when in Port . Then we would use the water for the plants in the town centre, then find the cheapest office licence in Port . Then Buy 2 litres of Vodka or Gin put it in the water bottle and then smuggle it on board for our cabin. Security at the gangway dont mind you bringing on board your own water even if its 35% proof.... Enough said ....... put that in your pipe captain missery.

you have got it right, just what we did. Are they so stupid they dony think that people are going to do that, and therefore losing the profit of buying bottles on board. Whats this country coming to, we are now non smokers, they have already stopped smoking in many places on board for them that do, and now have stopped the pleasure of buying a bottle of spirits on board to drink in your cabin. Nobody out there has answered my question on has to why they are still allowing you to purchase a wine package to consume anywhere on board the ship. As i said we are non smokers but feel very sorry for those that do, after all you save up for a lovely relaxing holiday, but now there are too many rules enforced, which are different to what is advertised in the 2009 brochure

Please could anyone let me know if they have also had problems with drinks on the ocean village 2 we are due to travel on this ship at the end of july 2009 and have cruised many times before but this is our 1st which we have upgraded for a balcony cabin as we wanted to spend time having a drink in our cabin on the balcony if we have to go out to the bars on the ship evertime we want a drink I will not be very pleased, I wonder if this rule would have applied if we were not losing this ship?

a QUESTION by hampshire (07 Jul 09 21:12)
I was appalled when I heard that the captain had stopped the purchase of drinks to be consumed in your cabin. Most people who go on holiday have a few drinks while getting ready to go for an evening out, whether they are at home or in a hotel on holiday. Most people do not abuse this and enjoy spending money in the bars as well. I go on OV2 in August and will be even thinking of cancelling my holiday with Ocean village as when I paid for my holiday It stated in there information that we were allowed to purchase bottles of spirits on board. Not only is this a breach in my contract with OV as I purchased this holiday under the assumtion that If I wanted I could purchase a bottle on board and I agree that this is definatley an infringement on my human rights. I will be taking this further not only with OV but european human rights activists.

Easy answer is just to pack a bottle of your favourite tipple in your luggage to take out with you. We often do this and it is never confiscated. You will have no difficulty in bringing lemonade or other mixers back on board from ports or there is usually a special offer (I think 6 cans for the price of 5) onboard

Had similar situation on Vision of seas last year. Told them this was a gross abuse of my human rights, that shook them a bit. Suggest try that line on OV

Yes, I've just got off OV2 and that's what we were told too. I'm not bothered either way, but I can see why others would be. I wonder if the Aussies will face the same rule when the ship heads south?

also forgot to mention, after stopping buying spirits to take back to your cabin, they did'nt stop the wine package you could purchase on board and take anywhere on the ship, how fair is that. My husband asked why this was at reception, he was given the answer, (you get more drunk on spirits than wine) what a stupid answer, and by the way i have never been drunk so why should some idiots spoil it for others
