The Cruise was a 7 night cruise from Southampton to The Norwegian Fiords calling at Stavanger, Olden, Geiranger and Bergen.
We live about 25 miles from Southampton and within 2 hrs we were on Oceana having lunch. The procedure for embarking was faultless. I was slightly concerned about the car parking but we just drove to the terminal, our suitcases remove and the car handed over, easy.
This was our second cruise, our first being with Thomson Celebration (Red Sea magic) which we enjoyed and would have booked with them again but Newcastle was too far for the same cruise itinerary.
We had an outside cabin, which was adequate. The wardrobe space was limited, could have been that we bought far too many cloths, cloths for wet, cold and hot weather, in the end we were very lucky with the weather and just needed our summer cloths. The bathroom was very small (don’t know how larger people get on, there were a lot on board).
The shows were excellent, we saw three of the Headliners Theatre Company performances, a comedian and Michal Stark (Sinbad from Brookside) who was the after dinner speaker. We also squeezed in 2 films.
We had club dinning, table for 2 for our evening meal but used ‘The Plaza’ for breakfast and lunch. We found that ‘The Plaza’ was quite a bum fight and stressful trying to find a table; ‘The Plaza’ is not adequate for the numbers using this restaurant.
After reading reviews on this site and doing an investigation on the web for places of interest we decided on one organised trip to the ‘Briksdal Glacier’ which we enjoyed and done our own thing at the other ports. In Bergen a must is the train to Mount Floien. We arrive at 10am found no queues paid our £7 each and enjoyed the views. When we returned the coaches had arrived from the 4 cruise ships that were in port and the queue were well into Bergin.
There were a lot of people in wheel chairs and others with mobility problems on board and we were very impressed with the crew and P&O in the way that they were treated and looking after.
We were Disappointed with the future booking desk on the ship. We had decided on our next cruise for 2010, organised a discount with our T.A. and had expected a reduction with P&O if we booked on the ship and transferred it to our travel agent. but no discount on board, only the brochure price which included the usual early booking reduction. It still works out cheaper to book through this site.
Overall it was a very enjoyable and relaxing cruise. Would we travel with P&O again, and Oceana, Yes.
