Previously we have sailed to New York on board the QE2 so we thought it was about time we tried theQueen Mary 2. yes it is much larger and yes it is very beautiful ,the fact that there were a lot more passengers did not have the impact that we thought it might and it was always possible to find a quiet spot to sit .( the weather was not so good so most people spent their time inside ).The Britannia Restaurant was good but we were very much aware that the choices and variety of food have been reduced once again. Staff in all areas of the ship were very efficient and friendly and very hard working.There are however a couple of things which changed the whole trip. Firstly the evenings in the Queens Room , The social staff were conspicuous by their abscence when on Previous sailings on QE2 they had been events where it was possible for everyone to join in and the staff made sure the evening went with a swing .The decision to put the Terminal in Brooklyn destroys the magic of sailing into NY up the Hudson River with the sun rising behind the skyscrappers. Also the difficulty this causes of getting transport into the midtown area is frustrating .We did use the ship transfer coach at a cost of$40 dollars per person because we had been told by crew members Yellow cabs were very reluctant to bring you back to the terminal in the afternoon which fellow passengers corroborated on the return trip. The trip itself was overall very enjoyable and helped us to decide that yes we will sail on her again and she isnot too big so the trip served the purpose very well.
