A Brilliant Experience!

We returned from the Canaries cruise with Royal Caribbean having had a wonderful holiday. It was only our second cruise (we last cruised with Thomson Cruises) and we woud definitely return to Royal Caribbean again.

The itinerary was great, although we would have also liked to have seen Gran Canaria instead of Casablanca. We didn't go on any of the organised excursions this trip, but we made use of the shuttle buses to get to the centre of town. This service was excellent and the buses ran quite frequently, so we could spend as little or as much time ashore as we liked. We did worry at first at being 'let loose' on our own, but things couldn't have been simpler!

We opted for a balcony stateroom this time and it was well worth the money, Although the stateroom was not quite as large as the one we had with Thomson Cruises, it was more than adequate and well set out - the only downside was there was only a shower, no bath. The tea-making facilities were a bonus, although we were only provided with tea and drinking chocolate, so next time we will take our own coffee!

The food was very good and we could eat as much as we liked, even for the evening meal which was waiter service - many people had two desserts!

The entertainment was excellent, especially the live shows. Not all the acts were to our taste, but each one was to a very high standard and there was something for everyone. The ship's own entertainers were first class and worked extremely hard to put on a very professional show.

All the other on-board activities were many and varied, although I must admit I spent most of my time, when at sea, sunbathing and completely relaxing! My husband was astonished at the size and quality of the gym and he spent a good deal of time in there.

Finally, just a word about the staff. They were all exceptionally friendly and couldn't do enough for us, and the standard of cleanliness on board was very good.

All-in-all, a wonderful holiday experience and one which we can't wait to repeat!

Yes, drinks were expensive; I think the cheapest bottle of wine in the restaurant was 26 dollars, and we were charged 14 dollars in the theatre for two campari and tonic; despite their informing you on the bill that they have added 15%, they leave a space for you to add more! As far as drinks packages are concerned, I think the only ones I saw were on the Royal Caribbean website, but these were for wine only at mealtimes. It is also possible to sign up for these on board ship.
