Enjoyable cruise on OV2

We have just returned from a two week cruise on OV2 and thoroughly enjoyed it. We have previously cruised with P & O, Celebrity and Princess and knew we weren't going to get the same kind of service as on these ships but as it was visisting the places we wanted to see, without having a lot of days at sea to get there, we decided to give it a go. We thought the cabins were clean and comfortable and we had more drawer and hanging space than usual. The shower was also a good size (unlike the Ventura!). You do not get the usual toileteries in the bathroom and be prepared to take your own shampoo and flannel. The buffets were very good and usually hot with plenty of choice, we usually ate in the Plantation for breakfast and lunch and the Waterfront for dinner. We had intended to eat in the Bistro in our second week but as James Martin arrived on board in Venice we were unable to get a table althought the first week they kept advertising tables. We went on the guided tour of Istanbul which, although expensive, was excellent. When we talked to people who had done it on their own we found they had not seen half the places we had seen, it also included an excellent meal in the Topkapi Palace overlooking the Bosphorus. We also went on a tour to the Corinth Canal as we had previously visited Athens and did not want to fight with the masses at the Acropolis again. In all the other ports we did our own thing without any problems.
We enjoyed the entertainment on board especially the Freddie Mercury, Abba and Annie Lennox tribute acts. The Planet show on the top deck was excellent. Only once did we manage to get a seat in Connections as it was always full. We liked Charlie's bar for a drink before dinner and the singers were very good. You are no longer allowed to buy bottles of spirits on board to take to your cabin (even at an extra cost) and we thought this was a bit mean as we like to have a drink on our balcony before dinner but I suppose it encourages you to use the bars instead. The entertainment staff were very enthusiastic and friendly, we nicknamed one the Gladys Pugh of OV2.
All in all we really enjoyed the cruise and have booked to go on OV1 again next year visiting some different ports of call.

I have sailed on many lines and higher starred ships but also thoroughly enjoyed Ocean Village. I regret that I never got to see the Annie Lennox tribute on my three cruises but Freddie was fabulous as was the 'freedom2move' resident company that do the ABBA tribute, as well as the shows.

Hi We have also just returned of the Ocean Village which sailed the Med from 4 June /June 18. I agree with almost all of you'r comments. We found the food on board OK we have had much better I ws very dissapointrd to see Currie at Lunch and Dinner it seemed what you diddn't eat the night before you had in the currie the following day. Usually they serve the dish of the country you arrive in. The food was not up to standered. I did not pay good money to stand in the connections to watch a show because there was a lack of seating.

Hi, Were you charged when you left the ship either by tender or at port to do your own thing as opposed to the organised tours?

We were not charged when we left the ship to do our own thing but we did not have any shuttle buses so I do not know whether there would have been a charge if these had been available. In Venice there was a £12 charge per person for a return on the water taxi to St Mark's Square. The ship was moored a long way from the centre so a water taxi was necessary to go ashore.
