We have recently returned from a Baltic and Norwegian Cruise with P & O. We travelled on Ventura, whilst it was a lovely ship we found that because of it's size most areas of the ship were quite crowded, especially the Waterfront for breakfast, we found we had to carry out breakfast through to other areas to find a table. We will in future use a smaller ship and felt that Oriana was a much better ship all round, especially with the layout of the public areas.

Our cabin was very good, we had a port side with balcony which was worth the extra as the cruise was quite scenic and we could sit on our balcony and also watch the scenary while getting ready for the evening meal. Loads of wardrobe space and shelves for clothes.

Overall we enjoyed most aspects of the cruise and there was certainly some beautiful scenery especially, Copenhagan, Tallin and Norway which was enjoyed by everyone we spoke to.

One thing to add with clothing, be prepared for any type of weather, as like the UK it can go from very hot one day and really cold and wet the next. As long as you take a good waterproof jacket and shoes and also cater for hot days you will be fine.

We ate in the East Restaurant several times which was excellent, we asked for a window seat so we could admire the scenary sailing away from Oslo, a real treat. The other place we enjoyed for a light lunch was Ramblers, the Spanish Bar where we enjoyed Tapas with a glass of wine and listened to the Spanish Guitar being played, very relaxing and away from the hustle and bustle.

We felt the entertainment was not as good as previously experienced. Also there was very little space for ballroom dancing which was very popular.

The problem with the Waterside being crowded for breakfast was because the Beachhouse restaurant was closed. They say it was because of the virus, who knows? We were on the same cruise and also went last year and the problem in the Waterside was not as bad, no queues and you could always get a table. We also used the Saffron for breakfast but found the service to slow.

Why on earth did you go to the waterfront for breakfast when you could have gone to the Saffron and had waiter service which was really appreciated first thing in the morning.

We went to Saffron every morning, didn't want to risk the bun-fight at Waterside. Though that said, did find the organisation in Saffron left a bit to be desired at breakfast. Dinnertime was fine.

Boddingtons was £2.35 a pint and £2.00 for a can, when we went 29/05/2009 but I know it as gone up about 10p since. Wine was £3.75 for a large glass. Some bars have it on draught and others in the can.
