Great Staff - terrible passengers!

The food, entertainment and staff on board were great but we were placed in a cabin in the Family section with constant noise from the families and children on both sides of our cabin at all times of night and day. Our cabin was also under the all day restaurant so that there was constant noise from the scraping and banging of chairs. We were appalled by some of the language and behaviour of a lot of the passengers on board who spoilt our enjoyment of the entertainment with their bad behaviour, their babies and children running wild and screaming and shouting and this was from 10.00pm in the evening !There was no senior member of staff present to control this bad behaviour and even when we complained, nothing was done about it and we were verbally abused by these passsengers because we dared to move away from where they had taken up residence! In the casino one night, a croupier even threatened to close down a roulette table because of the drunken behaviour of a group of customers and their foul language. The slogan of the company was 'A cruise for people who don't do cruises' - well, I wish alot of our passengers hadn't done cruises! I shall certainly be careful to pick our next cruise with more care next time should we ever pluck up courage to do one again.

No. We tried to book a balcony but were unable to or to upgrade when we boarded, even though we heard later on that some were available. There was no bath and we were placed in the family section with constant noise from the families on both sides. We were underneath the all day restaurant with constant scraping and banging of chairs

The only cabins with baths are the suites - you didn't book a suite so therefore you didn't have a bath. OV does not advertise baths in any other sort of cabin so why are you surprised you didn't get one? There are only very rarely cabins with balconies available at any time - they are normally the first to go. There's not a lot you can do about bad behaviour from other passengers - we had a nightmare on RCI with a group of 3 families who let their children run wild, so it's not just OV where you get bad behaviour it can happen anywhere AND NOT JUST ON CRUISE SHIPS!!!!

thank goodness not all cruise lines accept this sort of abusive behaviour. No you should have to put up with that behaviour. we were on a cruise last year with RCI, one family with children were being pretty obnoxious around the pool, using foul language. they were warned and they failed to take notice of the warning, and i am pleased to say they were off loaded on day 3 of the cruise. comments like "thats the way the country is going" is not acceptable we all have a right to enjoy our hard earned holiday

Did you not get to choose your cabin before hand. I think it is better to look at the deck plan and work out if your cabin will get noise from above, like you experienced before booking. It makes a lot of difference to disturbance levels. Noisy and unruly children are a fact of life nowadays, and on a ship like Ocean Village you will get families, often in big groups. Choose your next cruise line carefully!

Think you were a bit mean with your cabin score (amongst the biggest and best-planned on cruise ships) and overall score. I do understand where you're coming from, and its a shame that a few rowdies and uncontrolled kids can affect your cruise. I've encountered the very occasional group like that on OV (and others) but managed to steer clear, though there's an element of luck. It's the way the country is going, the only way to minimise the prospect of encountering such people & families is to buy your way out with a more expensive cruise, sadly not an option for me and besides I like OVs informal nature. .....Chris

I think you're being a bit unfair with your last comment Chris. We've sailed regularly with Thomsons, who I think compare price wise with OV and haven't experienced any of the sort of problems mentioned here.

Hi Guy. Agreed Thomson are similar price bracket to OV. Only sailed once with them, super little old ship, great crew, very enjoyable cruise, like you I encountered no problem passengers. Thomson have their share of problem land-based clients, lets hope it doesn't spread to Thomson Cruises. ....regards, Chris
