AFTER ALREADY DIPPING OUR TOES IN THE BEAUTIFUL CARIBBEAN WATERS IN 2006 ABOARD THE P&O OCEANA WE DECIDED FOR OUR 25TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY TO TRY A MORE LAID BACK CRUISE ABOARD THE OCEAN VILLAGE FLYING TO BARBADOS THEN CRUISING FOR THREE WEEKS BACK TO MAJORCA.PAYING A LITTLE EXTRA FOR A FLIGHT UPGRADE TO BARBADOS WAS A BLESSING WE HAD LOADS OF SPACE FOR STRETCHING OUR LEGS,FREE CHAMPAGNE,MOVIES AND EXCELLANT FOOD AND CABIN SERVICE,COMPARED TO THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK OF US WHO WERE CRAMED IN LIKE SARDINES.CRUISING THE CARIBBEAN WAS A DREAM LIKE ALWAYS.THE SHIP BEING A WELCOME FRIEND AFTER AN HARD DAYS SUNNING OURSELVES IN THE GORGOEUS SUNSHINE.THE OCEANVILLAGE IS NOT AS GRAND AS THE OCEANA BUT IT MAKES UP FOR IT IN ITS ENTERTAINMENT.THE SHOWS WERE FANTASTIC,ALTHOUGH THE VENUES DID GET A LITTLE TO CRAMMED FOR OUR LIKING.THE STAFF ARE SECOND TO NONE VERY FRIENDLY AND ALWAYS HELPFUL.OUR CABIN STEWARD PREPARED OUR ROOM WITH FLOWERS AND DECORATIONS ON THE DAY OF OUR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY WHICH WAS A LOVELY SURPRISE.THE ONLY DOWN SIDE OF THIS CRUISE WAS SALING BACK TO EUROPE OVER THE ATLANTIC,THE FIRST THREE DAYS WERE GREAT,WE WERE STILL SUNBATHING ON TOP DECK,BUT ON THE FORTH DAY THE WEATHER AND SEA CHANGED.IT BECAME EXTREMLY BUMPY CAUSING US TO LOSE SLEEP OVER TWO NIGHTS.BUT WHEN WE GOT TO MAIDEIRA THE SEA CALMED DOWN AND THE SUN CAME BACK OUT.IN ALL WE VISTED NINE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS AND TWO EUROPEAN BEFORE DOCKING IN MAJORCA FOR OUR FLIGHT HOME(ECONOMY CLASS)YUK,NO CHAMPAGNE OR ROOM TO BREATHE.I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMENDED CRUISING THE CARIBBEAN ABOARD THE OCEANVILLAGE, BUT I FEEL ITS BETTER TO DO TWO LONG HAUL FLIGHTS WITH UPGRADES INSTEAD OF THE ATLANTIC CROSSING.

Completely agree with your review but Was this Ocean Village 1 this year? We were on this ship - was it not after Madeira that it got really bumpy between there and Cadiz unless I totally lost track of the days? I remember the Captain giving us the delightful news that the wind would get up as we left Madeira late at night. Up till Madeira there was hardly any wind. Madeira was grey and overcast - the worst day we had in the 2 weeks weatherwise. The sun came out the day after Madeira but it was really windy and continued so right back to Palma. We were late leaving Cadiz due to the wind - but it didn't matter in the slightest! Agree with you that about the trip though - we loved it. We were actually quite impressed with Thomas Cook economy - we had loads of legroom, no champagne but we were very surprised that we could stretch our legs out!

yes it was the ocean village one we sailed on.i thought it was pretty calm sailing though once we reached madeira compared with the crossing from the caribbean.i do remember it being somewhat cloudy in madeira but i thought that was due to us being high up,we did the cable car.it was lovely leaving madeira late has it was nice to be on dry land after all that sailing, pity about the long walk back to the ship though,we never found the free bus.i remember we were pulled from the docks in cadiz due to the swell by little tug boats quite an adventure!i hate flying so needed the free champagne

Maybe it was just us then - but I do remember the night before Cadiz on the deck the swimming pool emptying as it moved around a lot and the Captain said it had been a force 9/10 that night. still it didn't stop us enjoying ourselves - we had our sea legs by then!
