My first cruise, and Id booked with Ocean village, I was swayed by the informality and the standard gratuities being included in the price. The other factor was that all people who I spoke to, and had previosly cruised with O V all sang Its praises. The flight to Barbados was great, with much more leg room than I was used to on prevois short haul flights. Plenty to occupy the 8 hours, and on time. We were held up for a few minutes while those hoteling the first week had paperwork for imagration, this was the only negative to speak of. Eventualy we disembarked into the cooler breeze, and on to a bus. Cockeral the driver was very entertaining, and the half hour trip to the boat went quickly.
Of the bus and queing in an old dock building/pasport control and after a few mins we got to the head of the que. Your snapped asked a couple of questions. Your pass card is produced from this info', and you hand luggage is metal cheched.
At last you enter the ship, and are shown to your cabin where you can wait for your cases or explore. When you do get back to you room your cases are ready to be unpacked. the fun starts here, more exploring and decideing were to eat and drink. Starting to form friendships and checking out the shops at the dock.
Eight o clock and Its up on deck to watch as we start voyage, exiting the harbour with the help of the pilot, and off into a dark sea, bye bye harbour lights...
A lovely and comfortable sleap in a large roomy bed ensures your fresh in the morning, and if like me the time difference means you'll be up to see dawn break and land come into sight on the second day, as the first day is spent at sea so you can explore the ship, rest and catch the rays.
The varios islands are great and after a few days become information overload somewhere new every day. We took several excursions in the first week, but the second week we took taxis on our own terms and this is by far the best way and cheapest way to see what you want. At every port many taxis are waiting to barter a fare, and the know the best beaches and sites, and love to help.
On board your meals are to notch, a hearty breakfat, sets you up for the day, and can keep you going till you return to the ship, or if staying on board till you next desire a munchie.
The bars and their staff are so friendly you cant help but make friends..all your memories will be good ones..you feel at home and comfortable..how much better can a holiday be...
Oh and I nearly forgot the send offs when ships leave each other at ports its brilliant, even more so when we were docked next to O V2 our sister ship...memories...the best...you mis it as soon as you get home.....must sail again soon.

hiya yes taxis are ok if few of other guest share with you in mini bus and works cheaper still .you must be back on ship before sails or it could cost you much more if you miss ship and have money to pay to catch ship at next port of call .hope you have great cruise when you go

yes, they're priced from £36 for short, and cycling excusions to just over the £100 mark for longer ones with a meal and rail or cable car rides. Some of the ride ones are easier done through the ship, but beach trips are far cheaper sorted your self with local taxis, but you don't get the background info' of a guide. Hope this helps, me personally I would plan my own and use local taxis next time.

hmm, see wha your saying, but you ship docks at 8am so your away before 9, and the ship sales at 6pm you simply arrange for return taxi about 3-4 ish, and theres pleanty of time and no rushing required. Also as you arange to pay all or most of the fare on return, you ensuring the taxis there on time. (plus there a always lots of taxis waiting on the of chance of a pick up). The ship could sink, but hey preperation covers most bases, PMA, and taxis save you a great deal of money, but If folks live on worry or cant keep time then let the cruise organiser do it all for you..
