My wife and another couple went on this same cruise and experienced many of the same feelings of contentment and joy that thewriter and her group had. We were fortunate to be able to meet and sit with two very very nice couples from England and we have been able to keep in touch with them and look forward to meeting up with them again in the future. One disagreeable thing that did happen is that at dinner one night some people in the upper deck, right over our table dropped a coffee pot down on our table and it smashed and glass and coffee flew all over everyone. No one was hurt seriously but was the most horrible experience we have ever had on any cruise.

We did the canal in 2005 and it was a fantastic trip, as it is a rain forest area our day was a bit drizzly but still good fun particularly when another ship came past us it was almost as though you could just about reached out and shook their hands. Did you get a certificate, we did to say we had transitted the full lenght of the canal, so I am certified now and got someting in writing to prove it. We were on Mercury earlier in the year down under ant that was quite a cruise...Bill

No, we didn't get a cartificate, and have never heard about them. I may contact Celebrity Cruises and see if they still issue them. Therese

Hi Therese, It maybe it varies depending on the Captain we didn't expect to receive one in fact we never knew one existed until the night we came back to find both on the bed with the new material so I doubt that Celeb would hold these as probably the Infinity printed them to give out to guests, it was May 2005 we were on the ship, but you could always ask...Bill

Always thought you were certifiable Bill....Seriously though, we'd love to 'do' the canal this year but haven't much unbooked holiday time left and thought we'd try a 'part transit' of the canal. ie half way in and then back again. What would you think of that for time poor travellers? Your view, as always, would be appreciated . J x

We've done a part transit and we loved it. You don't go very far into the canal and then turn around in the lake. We found it very interesting and learned a lot about the canal. You can get off the ship also. We did an eco trip from the lake which was one of the best cruise trips we've ever done! Do a bit of research on the ships tho, before you book. Only smaller narrower ships can transit the canal. The Celebrity ship was excellent.

Thanks for that Mrs Leech, I appreciate your answer. We have a Holland America trip in mind and when we go on our Nov. cruise, I think we may book a part transit. I shall look out for an eco visit. It will be warm, I hope.

The weather was absolutely beautiful when we went in January, but it can be rainy of course in that part of the world.
We had breakfast on the balcony as we passed along the canal. It was an excellent experience. One of the best ever. We haven't been on Holland America so can't comment at all on their ships. I believe, tho that they and Celebrity both have an excellent reputation. Have a good holiday!

Hi, that is an option or you could do a cruise that takes you to see how the locks work that in itself is a marvel, but there are a few cruises that do offer the part transit but what surprised us was when we got to the pacifice side the crowds that were there from a viewpoint waving and singing something we didn't have at the caribbean end but then we started going into the system around 10 a.m. before the onlookers arrived, but yes after rambling on it would at least let you see the how it all works. There is a webiste allows you to watch what is going on at http://www.pancanal.com/ but the site is very busy and sometimes difficult to see the views of the ships at both ends, but if you get into it the views change about every 30 seconds and there is option to see the Disney cruise ship going through...best wishes Bill
