My wife and myself had our 1st cruise on the 1st week of the Easter holidays on the Island Escape. We had read reviews on this and other websites. We did have reservations but went with an open mind.

The ship does look a little tired and scruffy in places but there was nothing that would spoil the holiday for us. The crew were all friendly and very helpfull and they kept the public areas very clean.

The cabin was a little cramped ( I am 6'4" and about 17 stone so find most rooms a little cramped ) but was comfy. Our steward Rajesh kept the cabin clean and tidy and the animals made out of the towels were excellent.

The food on board was very good and there was always plenty to eat at all times of day and night. We usually had breakfast and lunch in the beachcomber then the evening meal in the Island Restraunt. Sometimes the drinks were a little slow in being brought to the table but as we had no timetable to keep to this was not a problem for us.

We went for the All Inclusive package and found it to be invaluable, We kept all the reciepts from the bars and restraunts and added them up after we got home and found the bill would have been £400.

We didn't see much of the entertainment but did watch the comedian on the Saturday night and had a really good time.

We took te excursions to Pompeii, Pisa and a bicycle tour of Barcelona. Pompeii was made more enjoyable with the earpeices so we could all hear the tour guide even when at the back of the group the tour guide Gino was knowalgble and funny. Pisa was a wonderful place to visit but very busy . The bicycle tour of Barcelona was my favourite and Oscar was a very good guide.

Our usual haunt in the evenings was the sailaway bar where Pablo was a freindly and funny barman.

Overall we had a very good week on board the only down point would have been the rough weather on the Sunday night but the is nothing the crew off the ship could do about that.

Would we go on the Island Escape again ?? We have already booked on the Colourful Coasts cruise for Easter next year.
