This was a five day cruise, departing from Greenock and finishing in Cardiff, and visiting both Northern and Southern Ireland, Liverpool, and Wales, so all of the British Isles. Rail Travel was included in the package, so we went up a couple of days early to enjoy Glasgow and Edinburgh, and took a couple of days at the end for Cardiff. So, a total of some nine days - a very economical and effective way of seeing, or re-visiting, places that we wouldn't necessarily make a special trip to. The dock in Liverpool was disappointingly far from the city centre, as the central dock apparently does not have facilities for embarking passengers. We took advantage of the included city tour to get into the centre of Liverpool and then "jumped ship" as it were, and did a walking tour before catching the shuttle bus back to the ship. A very successful day. In Belfast, we took the optional, and expensive, tour to the Giant's Causeway as we had never been there before. In Dublin, we walked pretty much the whole of central Dublin, after taking the shuttle into town. Good fun in Pembroke, as we borrowed the ship's bicycles and cycled the few miles into town to see the castle.
The weather was lovely, and we really enjoyed the ability to eat outside on deck each evening. There was always a barbecue of freshly cooked meat and fish. We thought that the standards on the ship were pretty high, and had no complaints whatsoever. In particular, we would single out the library as a superb place to relax and read in odd quiet moments. Probably the largest and best we have ever come across, including the old Swan Hellenic Minerva (I)
All in all, a great break, and we would be very happy to sail on Spirit of Adventure again, when we can find an itinerary to suit us.
