Cruise Reviews

Our least favourite cruise but we still enjoyed it

We sailed on the island-cruises-summer-holidays/">Island Star on the 26th of July 08 for a weeks med cruise. This was our 5th cruise and to be honest the least enjoyable. To be fair we booked last minute and just wanted to sunbath and relax for a week and Island Star met our needs. However we found it to be very basic and not up to the standards of our previous cruises on Ocean Village to the Caribbean, Sea Princess to the Med and Diamond Princess to Hawaii. Island Star is in real need of a total upgrade our cabin was clean but tatty and very old fashioned. We found the food to be good but again didnt compare to Ocean Village and certainly not to Princess however we didnt pay as much so I suppose its a case of you get what you pay for. Our main concern was the kids club which was very poor. On the Diamond Princess the kids club was fantastic and our children aged 8 and 14 loved every minute. It was open 3 times a day for 3 hour each session you never had to pre-book and if you wanted to go ashore without the children the kids club looked after them free of charge and even took them to lunch. On Island Star the kids club did activities for an hour a couple of times a day and you had to pre-book and wouldnt look after children who's parents had gone ashore. All in all we did enjoy our week on Island Star but wouldnt return as Ocean Village offers higher quality informal cruising and we have found that we enjoy the quality that formal cruising offers to its passengers. On a last note the Captain JC was fantastic and really got involved with his passengers.
Quality of Food2
Good basic food we ate in the Steak house twice and this was excellent and made me feel like I was on a cruise
Entertainment2
Spent most of our time sitting up on deck with a bottle of wine at night
Shore Excursionsn/a
Didnt do any
Staff4
The Captain JC he was fantastic got really involved with the passengers and made sure they were enjoying themselves
Children's Facilities1
Very disappointed with the kids club, very short sessions had to pre-book and didnt provide the opportunity for parents to go ashore without the children
Onboard Activities2
Only 2 pools which got very very busy
Cabins2
Very clean and spacious but tatty and old fashioned also towels were not white and fluffy as on other cruises

I agree with most things you said but you really do get for what you pay for. We went on the sea princess to the carribean, which was a lot more expensive than the island star cruise. The Island cruise was so cheap compared to a lot of others. I was dissapointed with the cabins also but then thought about what we had payed for this cruise.
