We have just returned from a wonderful cruise on the Black Sea aboard the Regent -Severn Seas Voyager,Istanbul to Pireaus
I selected this cruise because of its Itinerary and then checked on the cruise line and was advised that this was a good choice.
It certainly exceeded my expectations. We travelled independently and had a extra day in Istanbul.
We had a transfer from the hotel to the port and when we arrived we looked for the cold lifeless hall that we have previously had to check in at.Instead an officer was waiting on the quay he took our bags they were given to a crew member and we saw them put onto the conveyor into the ship ,we were then invited up the gang plank where we were given Champagne and taken to a table to register (no queue's) and then were escorted to our suite where a bottle of champagne on ice was waiting along with our luggage. The entire check in took no more than 15 mins.
The suite was large ,walk in wardrobe /dressing room ,bathroom was a good size with a bath and shower cubicle. The seating area had a large sofa 2 chairs & table and a unit housing a flat screen tv ,dvd player plus a fully stocked drinks fridge.
We were left to unpack etc ,various members of the suite crew came and introduced themseves.
The captain introduced himself over the loud speaker giving us details of sailing times etc. (we did not get away on time as some guests had not arrived due to flight problems at Frankfurt ).We left at midnight but still arrived at the first port iof call on time .
He also asked us to open our doors and bring a wine glass ,to meet other guests on our corridor and were served with wine and canapes which was a lovely way to break the ice.
The public rooms were comfortable and airy ,All the staff were courteous, helpful and friendly. The captain was always around the ship (not just at the welcome party ) and would always stop for a chat .
The itinerary and excursions were very good ,interesting ,scenic, with generally knowledgeable and informative guides.
The food and ambience in the restaurant was excellent, and seating was always available at all meals (no queuing ).
The dissembarkation was easy- breakfast was available as usual (no getting up at the crack of dawn). We then left the suite and went to a public area where pastries and tea were served & waited for our call to dissembark. On the quay staff were waiting to give us our bags & we reluctantly said our good byes.
This was a lovely holiday and a great way to celebrate my 50th birthday !
I will now look at Regent and see what they offer &I look forward to our next cruise with them.
