Our first cruise and I was a confirmed sceptic .......but no more ........it was beyond my best expectations. The room was perfect , plenty of space and excellent service .Itinery- numerous Baltic ports the highlight of which was St.Petersburg which was superb , Helsinki probably the most disappointing.Ship the Celebrity Constellation was super - all staff were attentive , helpfull and happy in their approach to passengers.Dining - both variety and quality was exceptional .On board facilities more than adequate I used the gym most days which was very well equiped and again very good staff . I have become a bore singing the praises of the cruise . Entertainment on the whole was very good - the exception being one of the bands in the rendez vous bar which were below par . The disco's also left a lot to be desired as they seemed to play to a very small minority until the minority became the majority!On the whole a perfect way to lose my virginity (to cruising of course!)and we are already planning two cruises for 2009!
Quality of Food
Lunchtime meals were mostly the healthy option near the aqua spa and were excellent. Most evening meals were on second sitting in the main dining room where service was exceptional , presentation and variety very good.One evening meal taken at the Oceans restaurant where there was a moderate supplement to be paid - this was well worth the visit for a truly oustanding experience. would have enjoyed localised dishes being included on the menus.
Entertainment
Theatre performances very polished and entertaining. Visited the disco on two occassions but was disappointed at the music choices which seemed to be aimed at the very youthfull and had the effect of sending the majority of revellers to bed!
Shore Excursions
St.Petersburg excursions superb.Helsinki average - but I think that said more about Helsinki than the excursion.Germany we decided that Berlin was too long a journey and opted for a local trip - which was adequate.
Staff
Our cabin staff could not do enough for us - pleasant and cheerfull greetings at all times.Breakfast served beautifully and nothing too much trouble . Main restaurant waiter established a great rapport with all diners on our table , anticipating our varied requirements superbly.
