Flight out to San Juan was OK with AA via Newark - pity the same couldn't be said about the return flight - appalling! Cruise ship was very good, almost brand new and our 2 week itinerary taking us to Aruba, La Guaira, Grenanda, Totolla, St. Thomas back to San Juan and then on to St. Lucia, Barbados, Dominica, St. Thomas, St Kitts and finishing once again in San Juan. Booking in on board was good and our cabin was equally good. Restaurant service was very good for the first week primarily due to table companions having Sicillian relatives. Second week service was not quite as good. Food overall was excellent. Entertainment was OK but was repeated (including the jokes) during the second week. Good variety of trips provided. Staff of varying nationalities - interesting to talk to - restaurant staff good and our cabin steward was excellent. Overall a very good cruise apart from the terrible flight home.

Mainly in on-board restaurants and occasionally in the snack-bars.
Entertainment
Repetition of 1st weeks acts (and jokes) during 2nd week. Good staff participation.

Best - Dominica rain forest Worst - Aruba - memory fails me

I thought that I was dreaming there for a minute, but yes, the Dawn Princess was only a couple of years old when you sailed on her in 1999! Another one after a Berlitz guide obviously? I just might do a review myself of my FIRST cruise, and it would still be more up to date than that! Happy cruising.

Not sure a review of your first cruise would get you a Berlitz guide, Burrows. It does say at the top of this page that reviews should be of a cruise taken in the last 2 years!

Eh, thanks for that info! I had previously been informed by experienced commenters on this site that the reason people posted vintage cruise reviews was to get a free Berlitz Guide! I am now puzzled again as to their motivation? As O'Brien so rightly guessed, I already have my copy of the Berlitz Guide, enthusiastically purchased over the counter some time ago! Happy cruising.

In fairness, Burrows comment referred to a review by Sadler, Gamlingay who sailed on Dawn Princess in 1999. I think that puts this review into the more than 2 years category don't you. I am sure that if Burrows wanted a Berlitz guide that desperately, they would go and purchase one, I know I would. Burrows was just stating a fact.
