First Class Mediterranean Cruise

Now back to the dismal Autumnal weather, we recall with great pleasure our recent cruise in the mediterranean-cruises/">Mediterranean, departing Rome on the 6th September last.

Our flight from Manchester was provided on Titan Airways on which we received excellent service - good food and "no selling ". Being on our first Wedding Anniversary, there were flowers, champagne, chocolates and a card from the Captain in our balcony cabin on deck 7. That cabin was spotless, the bed large and extremely comfortable, a comment repeated by several fellow travellers with our steward, John, always attentive.

We ate in Britannia Restaurant. Having had 5 courses on other cruises we were surprised to be given only 3 but the choices were varied and the standard excellent. |The Lido Restaurant was always able to satisfy our needs at other times - the only critisism of the whole holiday was that in the Lido on occasion the plates could have been a little warmer and some hot food a little hotter.

The dress code was observed at all times and it was good to see a gentleman who turned up in shorts and singlet for breakfast in the Britannia Restaurant being asked to change.

We visited the Royal Court Theatre most nights - varied entertainment, great dancing, splendid music and quality singing to a very high standard. Unfortunately we were disappointed by the local Turkish Folklore night. Dancing in the Queen's room on formal nights was most enjoyable.

We went on 5 tours - all competently arranged and conducted. Regrettably, places such as Capri and Ephesus were crowded due to so many liners being present but nethertheless the tours were worthwhile.

Wherever we went on the ship it was so good to be greeted with a smile and a hello by all crew members.

OVERALL CONCLUSION - an excellent cruise on a wonderful ship which lived up fully to our expectations.
Quality of Food5
Britannia Restaurant - Food quality excellent Lido Restaurant- Good choice of food but could have been hotter
Entertainment5
All shows in the Royal Court Theatre were excellent with the exception of the Turkish Folklore night which was poor.
Shore Excursions5
All excursions were good and the guides were excellent. Our favourite destinations were Dubrovnik and Venice.
Staff5
All members of staff were cheerful and courteous. Alistair Greener, the Entertainment Director was very good at his job, most entertaining. Our cabin steward John also deserves a mention.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities5
There were plenty of activities catering for all ages and abilities.
Cabins5
Our A7 balacony cabin was adequate in size and luxuiously fitted out. There was a shortage of drawers but this was being addressed during the cruise - they were being added deck by deck.

Hi going on the QV on 05/11/08 , could you please tell me how Titan is and the transfers, from the airport back and forth. We arrive at 9am and do not depart until 6pm. Wondering if they take you straight to the port or day rooms or a tour of Rome Many thanks steve

Hello. We flew with Titan to Rome in May this year for a Fred Olsen cruise. Within 20 minutes we were served a drink of choice. Then came hot lunch with wine ( even real glasses and steel cutlery). Flight on time , cheerful staff. Oh, and hot towels after the meal. Contrast this with BA flight to Rome for the Queen Victoria med cruise two weeks ago. Drink followed by dry sandwich (two choices)put infront of you. The transfer to the port with Cunard took about 50 mins. We flew back from Venice. we were picked up from the ship at 7pm so went into venice all day. Our hand luggage stayed onboard. Fly Titan when you can.The flight we were on with Fred Olsen had taken Manchester United to Moscow the day before.!! If its good enough for them?

Hi there Steve. Titan Airways is a chartered airline which according to it's website has been going for 20 years - suggest you have a look for further details. Our times were different to yours - we landed in Rome on the Saturday at 20.00 and were taken to the port by minibus. As for coming home, we had to be out of the cabin by 08.00 but not off the ship and were collected to go by bus to the airport at 16.00. We filled in the time by going into Venice and then returning to the ship. All travelling arrangements and transfers were included in our package - this was fortunate as the flight out was delayed and the ship waited for us.
