Cruise Reviews

Review by Mike & Sheila Seamarks - book ref 233595

Reviewed By: SEAMARKS, BEDFORD on 9th Oct 2008
Cruise Line: Royal Caribbean Cruises Times cruised before: 6-10
Cruise Ship: Independence of the Seas Sailed: September, 2008
Destination: Mediterranean Age: 56-65
We arrived to an extremely efficient check in and allowed to board prior to our designated time. Although the stateroom was not ready lunch was available in the Windjammer after which the cabin was available without hassle. First impressions were spacious, modern, and to a good standard in comparision to the competition. Beds were very comfortable
We booked excursions for all ports except Gibraltar. (3 full days - 4 half days) All were well organised with informative guides. Our favourite destination was Nice, Eze abd Monte Carlo
We opted for any time dining which we found useful to vary each day allbeit that the tables were still predominatly used for two sittings. The quality of food was very good and varied with plenty of choice. Service in our favourite part of the dining room (King Lear) was impeccable. Breakfast and lunch in Romeo and Juilet restaurant was efficiently organised (no queues to be seated) with good waiter service.
The Windjammer cafe was not for us - lack of seating at peak times. The way the food / drinks were organised meant considerable wandering around before selecting
When we required an extra knive e.g. to cut some fruit after a meal we were forced to get another complete set including napkin which was wasteful.
Facilities on board we rated as excellent for all tastes with Gym the best equipped of any ship we have experienced. We enjoyed the 9 hole putting, the running / walking track on deck 12, the hot tubs and swimming. The fresh fruit bar by the pools was a good idea.
We watched most of the evening shows which were good and varied. Particularty enjoyed the backbeat Beatles. We watched two magnificant ice shows. The downside to the entertainment was the Promenade shows were noisy and crowded.
Overall we enjoyed the cruise (Royal Caribbean cannot be responsible for the weather!) and the ship is well laid out and easy to find ones way around but for us it was a little too large.
