Black Watch Experience

Reviewed By: Roberts, Carmarthen on 6th Oct 2008
Cruise Line: Fred. Olsen Cruises Times cruised before: 3-5
Cruise Ship: Black Watch Sailed: August, 2008
Destination: Baltic Age: 56-65
Upon arrival at the dock, whilst in the queue to board we started chatting to a couple (as you do) and we we told that the Black watch was a happy ship, and it was their 5th time to the Baltic on the Black Watch, which is a good recommendation in itself. It was indeed a happy ship, nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff on board and they all seemed quite informative of the destinations, you felt confident about the response to any question raised, that went for the cruise director down to the waiter and cabin maid.

The locations were well thought out and we had a few surprises in Poland and Estonia, we did not realise they were such pretty places we were expecting them to be more industrious, aslo you felt very safe in places we visited.

I went to the Ballet in St Petersburg and it really was worth a visit, you may take a camera for photos of the interior (but not of the ballet itself, which is the same everywhere). it was a wonderful experience.

As always the food on board was first class with a varied menu, you could also eat in the garden cafe where themed nights were served, the meals and decor for the evening was well thought out.

If there was a draw back, it is the early departure for disembarkation, we were not informed of the time of departure, we were leaving the ship at 7.30 in the morning, when I questioned a member of the crew I was told it is always an early departure and everybody would be off the ship by 9.00 o'clock in the morning. This was the first ship we had been on with such an early departure, an indication of the time could be given with your disembarkation advice, but now knowing the procedure I would still tarvel with Fred Olsen, this was our first cruise with them.

My husband and I both had a wonderful time and are looking forward to our next crusie.

The excursions we went on were very good but a bit expensive
