Had a fabulous time recently aboard the Norwegian Jewel. I had read reports which were often critical of American Ships so was a little apprehensive as this was our first cruise of this kind and on such a large ship. Fears were soon put to rest. The ship is fantastic, our compact inside cabin had everything we needed, - hairdryer, tea & coffee making facilities, powerful shower etc. The room service was brilliant and I now wish I had taken more photos of the wonderful "designer towels" placed on our bed each evening! Food in the main restaurants was very good with enough choice to satisfy most tastes; consequently we never felt the need to try any of the speciality restaurants with cover charges. The Stardust Theatre kept us entertained each evening. One criticism would be the cost of extras - house wine was $26 per bottle, plus 15% service charge! Those passengers who could not live without their bingo sessions were paying up to $90 a time. As with all cruises, NCL organised trips were also expensive and, with the exception of St Petersburg, we did our own thing. We enjoy walking and the ship always docked within walking distance of each city centre. Would we sail with NCL again - definitely yes.

| Quality of Food | |
| Tzars Palace was our favourite restaurant for an evening meal. Lunch was usually from the enormous buffet in the Garden Cafe but as it got very busy we prefered to take our food and sit in the Italian restaurant which was always much quieter. | | Entertainment | |
| Entertainment each evening in the Stardust Theatre. Least enjoyable was the comedian. A pleasant surprise was the performers who came on board to perform just prior to sailing from Germany and also Russia. Sing-a-long-with-Sound of Music was a fun evening with a difference. | | Shore Excursions | |
| We did our own thing in each of the ports of call except St Petersburg. As we are not lovers of museums, palaces etc, prefering instead to look at the architecture and walk the streets on day 1 we chose "St Petersburg through the Eyes of the Russian People" which took us on the metro, to a farmers market and vodka tasting and on day 2 did a half-day tour of the main sights! | | Staff | |
| All the staff on board were very friendly and helpful. Got a bit fed up with the entertainment crew constantly trying to get us to buy raffle tickets though. | | Children's Facilities | n/a |
| | Onboard Activities | |
| We are not lovers of group activities, preferring instead to sit and read, watch the world go by. However, we were never bored, time passed really quickly, in fact never got round to trying out the Gym or the pool although we did enjoy the outdoor Jacuzzis - even in the rain. | | Cabins | |
| We had booked an inside cabin on late availability. This was our 4th cruise and I have to say the cabin was of a much higher standard than anything we had ever stayed in before. The large double bed was extremely comfortable, there was tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, modern shower, lovely toiletries replenished daily and plenty of hanging space for clothes. The cabin boys were very friendly and did us some lovely animal towels. The balcony cabins looked fabulous, but I'm not sure I would pay the extra cost unless it was a special occasion. All in all we did not spend much time in our cabin! | | Overall Rating | |
