Azamar Quest to Black Sea

Reviewed By: Keith Abrey, Sevenoaks on 29th Aug 2008
Cruise Line: Azamara Cruises Times cruised before: 10+
Cruise Ship: Azamara Quest Sailed: July, 2008
Destination: Mediterranean Age: 65+
We travelled on the Azamara Quest from Rome to the Black Sea. The ship had the feel of a high quality country house hotel, very elegant with good quality finishes and styling. Staff were all very good and food and standards excellent.

This was the first cruise that we had experienced that offered open seating for dinner and prior to leaving my wife and I were both a little apprehensive..however it proved to be excellent ...something that almost all other passengers agreed. It gave you the flexibility of dining at a time that suited you, something that suited us very well as we don't like to eat late, however we so very often missed the sailings on other cruises as that coincided with the first sitting for dinner.

Open dining also gave you the opportunity of dining as a couple or sharing with others ..and taking this option meant that you had different companions each night, or if you really hit it off with others you could arrange to meet in the bar and sit together.

Unfortunately the on board entertainment was in our opinion poor...with a number of the main shows utilising the talents of the on-board musical entertainers, whom you could listen to at other times in the lounge. There was also a distinct lack of activities IN the evening and one would see people aimlesly wandering around the ship trying to find something to occupy themselves other than just sitting in the bar or in the casino.

I also believe that more could have been of the fact that we cruised through the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus and it would have been very good to have had an expert on board who could have pointed out the various points of interest through the external PA system.

One other small scenario that was exteremly frustrating was the practice of jet washing the promenade decks at about 9 o'clock in the morning on the days the ship was at sea.....closing off for those that prefer to sit on deck out of the sun, and also soaking all the saetas an mattresses. Why this could nt have ben done very late at night I don't know

That said, generally the experience was a good one. Would we travel on Azamara Quest again? Jury's out on that. If Azamara were the only ships to travel to a particular destination that we wanted to visit we would certainly go with them ..but given the option of another ship we would take that option.
