An Enjoyable Itinerary

Reviewed By: Elliott, Newton Aycliffe on 31st Jul 2008
Cruise Line: Costa Cruises Times cruised before: 6-10
Cruise Ship: Costa Allegra Sailed: June, 2008
Destination: Far East Age: 65+
We have cruised with various cruise companies but this was our first cruise with Costa Cruises. It was the itinerary which appealed to us as we had never been to Japan and China (other than Hong Kong) before. Main problem we encountered was that as there was only 15 British people on the ship, some of the excursions were not available to us which was a huge disappointment as we are very unlikely to be able to return to Japan and China again. In addition, we had been advised that if we did not have a Visa for China we would be unable to embark the ship at all. There were in fact 200+ people allowed to embark on the ship who didn't have Chinese Visas, therefore on the ship arriving in China, these 200+ people had to apply for a "block" Visa and consequently the start of our excursion was delayed for 4 hours while this took place! We had an inside cabin and having read reviews before we went, we were a little worried that there would be insufficient space for our clothes. The was more than ample storage space. Only other complaint was a family took over one of the Jacuzzies and allowed their young children (4 and 8 years old) to spit and generally make a nuisance of themselves. On only one occasion did a member of the crew ask them to stop! Excursion desk needs to be better operated as does the Pursuers Desk. But all in all, an enjoyable cruise but mainly because of the two wonderful couples we shared our dining table with and the itinerary itself.

Apologies for late response - have been away and just got back. Wine - well we actually do not drink but the couples who were at our table (4 others) all did and said that the prices were "better than uk prices". one of the couples knew alot about wine and said that the selection was excellent. We paid our final bill by credit card but we think this is a personal choice. It all depends on the exchange rate at the time and the way the Euro/Pound is at the moment you just can't tell! Hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise"

thank you for responding very helpful, this will be our 8th cruise on various cruise lines and we have always found the drinks to be no more overpriced than in a resturant, we just wondered as there were so many reviews that said prices were outlandish, thanks again
